The Church Of Scientology Puts Its Foot Down On "Unfounded" Leah Remini's Missing Person Claims

The Church of Scientology is on a mission to stamp out rumours that David Miscavige's wife has suspiciously disappeared amidst swirling allegations prompted by actress Leah Remini's missing person report.

The organisation has said Ms. Remini "cooked up" the "unnecessary burden" for the LAPD as "nothing more than a publicity stunt." The statement provided by the Church is caustic and direct in its delivery, describing those who propagated the matter as "unemployed, anti-religious zealots who blog on the fringe of the internet." They also cite the police in stating that the missing person case, opened by Remini upon her own exit from Scientology, is now closed.

Although Michelle Miscavige has reportedly not been seen publically for six years, police reports, via E! News, suggest that a face-to-face meeting with "Shelley" ended the case. Despite the police not confirming whether Shelley was being held against her will, attorneys on behalf of the church said in 2012 that Mrs. Miscavige was "working nonstop in the Church as she always has." Suspicion was sparked when Miscaviage wasn't accompanied by his wife to fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise's 2006 wedding.

After three decades as a prominent and vocal member of the Church of Scientology, founded in 1952 by L. Ron Hubbard, Remini left the controversial church last month, saying she didn't want to be told how to live her life. Speaking to People magazine, the former Kings of Queens actress said "I believe that people should be able to question things. I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct," adding, "That for me, that's what I'm about.It wouldn't matter what it was, simply no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to."

In further denial to claims made by Ms. Remini, the Church of Scientology refuted suggestions that Leah's decision to leave the organisation came as a result of years of interrogation and thought modification, the New York Post reports.

The Church Of Scientology's Statement:

"The Los Angeles Police Department has already stated that the case is closed and that the report filed by Leah Remini was unfounded. This ill-advised, ludicrous self-promotion and the media inquiries it generated caused an inexcusable distraction for the LAPD in an era when the time and resources of its officers are stretched thin each day.

"Creating this unnecessary burden for law enforcement was even more irresponsible given the entire episode was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Ms. Remini, cooked up with unemployed, anti-religious zealots who blog on the fringe of the Internet. Sadly, rather than move on with her life and career, Ms. Remini has aligned herself with a handful of untrustworthy, lunatic tabloid sources who obsessively harass the Church to advance their selfish agendas."
