We hear rumours of celebs turning to scientology all the time, but to see one come out the other side is still fairly new, such is the infancy of the controversial religion. Leah Remini, due to alleged ‘thought modification’ has left the church of scientology after more than 30 years of being a member.

Leah ReminiNo more scientology for Leah

“I wish to share my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response I have received from the media, my colleagues, and fans from around the world. I am truly grateful and thankful for all your support,” read a statement from the star. She leaves after “years of interrogations” and attempted “thought modification”.

In an April 2001 interview with CNN, Remini said she ”finds solace in her steadfast practice of Scientology,“ and defended the religion saying: “If somebody is going to get turned off about something because of what they read or heard, then that person's not smart enough to even enter a church.”

Leah ReminiThe actress left the church for good

High profile members of the religion aren’t anything new, in fact, it is thought thay Remini was criticized after for questioning the church’s leader David Miscavige during a dinner Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s wedding. Cruise is famously a member, as is fellow actor John Travolta. It was founded in 1954 by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, who was recently portrayed – not by name but my character – by Philip Seymour Hoffman in Paul Thomas Anderson’s stunning film, The Master.
