Police officials have closed a missing persons case after actress Leah Remini filed a report in a bid to locate the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige.

Remini, a former member of the Church of Scientology, filed the missing persons report with police in Los Angeles, claiming Michelle 'Shelly' Miscavige has not been seen publicly for six years.

However, the case has now been closed as law enforcement forces have ruled her concerns are "unfounded".

Reports suggest officers made the decision to end the investigation after a face-to-face meeting with Shelly.

Los Angeles Police Department (Lapd) Detective Gus Villanueva tells E! News, "The Lapd has classified the report as unfounded, indicating that Shelly is not missing," while Officer Gregory Baek tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "The case is closed and nothing found."

A spokesperson for the Church of Scientology dismissed the case as "ludicrous" and a "publicity stunt".

Remini left the controversial church last month (Jul12) after three decades as a member.
