Wiseman took charge of 2007's Live Free Or Die Hard, and now he is being tapped to shoot a new Die Hard origin story to explore the roots of Bruce Willis' lead character, police detective John MCClane.

The new project, tentatively titled Die Hard Year One, is expected to feature Willis, alongside another actor who will play the younger MCClane, according to Deadline.com.

The last Die Hard release, 2013's A Good Day to Die Hard, was directed by John Moore and grossed $304.7 million (£190.4 million) at the global box office. The whole film franchise has banked a total of $1.4 billion worldwide since the first Die Hard, based on Roderick Thorp's 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever, hit theatres in 1988.
