Len Wiseman claims his 'The Mummy' reboot will be ''shockingly different''.

The 'Total Recall' filmmaker plans to completely reinvent the popular adventure trilogy, which starred Brendan Fraser as a heroic archaeologist on a mission to stop a resurrected ancient Egyptian priest.

He told Digital Spy: ''I'm involved right now and the script is in the process of being written so I'm excited to see what it turns into... it is set in the modern day [and] it's an entirely different kind of 'Mummy'.

''It doesn't tie in in any way to the Brendan Fraser movies - it's not a remake at all.''

The director - who is married to Kate Beckinsale - is adamant he won't simply be resurrecting the horror franchise and says he was immediately won over by the ''shocking'' new modern day concept presented to him by Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci, the duo behind J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek' reboot.

Len explained: ''The pitch that Alex Kurtzman and Bob presented to me was shockingly different. It wasn't something that I would immediately be interested in, but their pitch - it was shocking how new and interesting it was.''

The director isn't putting any time limits on the film, however, and hinted it may be a few years before production kicks off.

He said: ''I don't necessarily know if it's next or when the script will be ready, but it's something I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how it develops.''
