Lena Dunham is ''intimidated'' by marriage.

The 'Girls' creator previously claimed she and her boyfriend Jack Antonoff, 31, were waiting until same-sex marriage was legalised in the US before tying the knot, but she has now admitted she's been putting off getting hitched because she doesn't think her big day will be as good as a gay wedding.

Speaking on the 'Ellen DeGeneres Show', she said: ''I feel intimidated because, I don't want to espouse any stereotypes, but gay people are kind of killing it at weddings right now they're kind of winning at weddings. So I don't want to go in and kind of pale in comparison.''

The 26-year-old star and her rocker beau, who have been dating since 2012 and have a pet pooch named Lamby together, felt pressure to wed when were bombarded with text messages about their future plans after same-sex marriage was legalised in the US on June 26, 2015.

She explained: ''We were thrilled, we were celebrating. And then suddenly the texts just started coming from our friends, from our mothers, from our exercise instructors. Being like finally it's your time. And we kind of looked at each other we were like, 'Oh God what have we done?' ''

She added: ''We own a dog together. We own a home together, but the marriage thing is a big deal.''
