The 28-year-old was interviewed by Howard Stern on SiriusXM on Thursday (2nd October) and he questioned Dunham about her relationship with Antonoff. Dunham admitted the two were very much together and described Antonoff - who is the lead guitarist of the band Fun - as her "life partner".

Stern then asked when she and Antonoff were going to tie the knot, as Perez Hilton reports. Dunham explained her reasons behind holding off on marriage as she wants gay couples to be able to marry on equal terms to straight couples. Her reason was also personal as her younger sister Grace is gay.

Dunham said "We're not against marriage, but I wanna wait until it's something. my sister's gay and it just doesn't feel good to me to do something she can't do. She can do it in some places but not all places."

Presumably by "all places", Dunham means within the US as worldwide equal marital rights is unlikely to happen within our lifetime (one only has to consider Russia's attitude). Yet Dunham may still be waiting a while in the US as only 19 states have legalised same sex marriage, as the Human Rights Campaign website records. However, significant progress has been made in recent years and, of those 19 states, 12 have made legislative changes in the past two years.

Nevertheless, the Girls creator and Antonoff appear to be living in a state of un-wedded bliss as Dunham revealed in her interview. They first began dating in 2012 and have seemingly been inseparable ever since, although both are content with giving each other space to work.

Dunham said, as MTV reports, "There's a room in our house where he goes and makes music. We were living in a studio apartment when I wrote [her new book Not That Kind Of Girl] book and he made his album. He goes into a room and doodles around on a keyboard and comes out and made magical things."
