The Women Of 'Game Of Thrones': Who Wins, Who Dies, Who Gets It On In Season 4?

Let’s talk Game of Thrones. After the second Season 4 trailer, aptly titled Vengeance, was released, the internet – to put it mildly – went nuts. Because no one will be able to stop talking about GoT until April, let’s go into some details. Namely – what’s happening to the ladies in Thrones this season? The women on this show have been particularly disadvantaged from the start, presumably because the action is set in a magical, mystical equivalent of the middle ages. This season Cercei, Daenerys, Arya, Sansa and the rest of them won’t suffer any fools, by the looks of it.

Maisie Williams (Arya) - your favorite little sociopath wants revenge.

The trailer begins with Arya (Maisie Williams) saying “I can’t sleep until I say the names... the ones I’m going to kill.” You already know some serious vengeance is about to go down. Although in the trailer, we mostly see her wondering around aimlessly after the death of her mother and brother, so maybe our favorite little murderer isn’t ready to begin her reign of terror yet.

Sansa (Sophie Turner) just seems deeply troubled and haunted by the Red Wedding (aren’t we all), but there are some interesting details around her. At some point this season, Sansa might just escape King’s Landing. It would be nice to see her character actually do something for once.

We hope to see more of Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) in Season 4.

Cercei (Lena Headey) is mad. As in "scheming to get her entire family killed" mad. Which isn’t that big of a change, actually, when you consider that she’s been angry at everyone for most of her life – being sold into a loveless marriage tends to do that to people. On the topic of vengeance though, the trailer features the quote: “The day will come when your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth and you will know the debt is paid,” which is rather badass and scary and we hope Cercei gets all the vengeance her heart desires this season.

Daenerys Targaryen “will do what queens do.” No one knows what this means exactly, not even Dany. Now, the Mother of Dragons is one of the universally loved characters of GoT because A. she’s really pretty and B. she rose from a complete underdog to a certified HBiC in just three seasons. That’s a lot of character development, but it’s still clear that Dany doesn’t really know what to do with her newfound power. With rebellions to quell and growing dragons to control, the Khaleesi will have a lot on her hands.

Catelyn Stark is dead. Jeyne Westerling (Rob Stark’s wife) is dead. Margaery Tyrell marries King Joffrey in a lavish wedding and might as well be dead. Moving on.

This season, it might be a good idea to keep an eye on Asha Greyjoy, who may or may not rule the Iron Islands at some point. Then again, no one actually cares about the Iron Islands, so scratch that. And then there’s the little makeout session that seems to be happening between Oberyn Martell and Shae, Tyrion’s concubine/lifelong love. We don’t know what that’s all about, but it’s one of the only instances of people getting it on in the trailer, so it probably matters.
