‘The Big Bang Theory’ is set to pay tribute to the late ‘Star Trek’ actor Leonard Nimoy next month, with the news that the star’s son Adam will be appearing in a guest role in a forthcoming episode.

The CBS show, which still has one of the highest ratings on TV in America, announced via its social media pages on Monday night (October 26th) that Nimoy’s 59 year old son, himself a television director, will be featuring in the November 5th episode ‘The Spock Resonance’.

Nimoy, who was transformed into a science fiction icon through his appearances on ‘Star Trek: The Original Series’ from 1966 to 1969, passed away at the age of 83 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on February 27th this year.

At the time, ‘BBT’s creator Chuck Lorre acknowledged the actor’s passing and his tremendous influence through a brief dedication on the show with the caption “The impact you had on our show and on our lives is everlasting” underneath a black-and-white photo.

The legendary actor never appeared in person on the ‘Big Bang Theory’, but he did once provide the voice for a Spock action figure in one of Dr. Sheldon Cooper’s dream sequences on the fifth season episode ‘The Transporter Malfunction’.

However, Adam will be playing himself in the new episode, and will ask Sheldon to participate in a documentary in memory of his father. Fittingly, in real life, Adam is believed to have approached his father with the idea of making a documentary about the character of Spock.

After his death, Adam reassembled the idea to make the project about his father’s life. It’s currently on Kickstarter, and has attracted over $400,000 in funds from Nimoy’s family, friends, former colleagues and fans. The project is scheduled to be finished before the end of 2016.
