Annette Bening

Another woman you probably thought had been recognised but hasn't is Annette Bening. Anette has been nominated four times starting in 1990 for ‘The Grifters’. Whilst she has received critical acclaim as an actress the Academy hasn’t yet given her its highest honour. Her roles in American Beauty, Being Julia, and The Kids Are All Right got the Academy’s attention but she didn't manage to turn a nomination into a victory despite picking up Golden Globe awards for ‘Being Julia’ and ‘The Kids Are Alright’.

Gary OldmanGary Oldman has also missed out on an Oscar

Gary Oldman

British actor Gary Oldman is another acclaimed actor who has never won Oscar gold. Actually he’s only been nominated once, in 2012 for ‘Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy’. The Academy passed him over many times and he’s long been known as one of Britain’s greatest acting exports. Just take 1987 for example when he went from playing Sid Vicious to playwright Joe Orton, proving his versatility in one year alone.

Ralph Fiennes

Another overlooked British export is Ralph Fiennes, who had a big upset in 1994 when his performance in ‘Schindler's List’ failed to win him an Oscar. His second nomination came in 1997 for ‘The English Patient’, which might have won best picture, but it failed to give Fiennes an award. Still Ralph has been overlooked many times, ‘The End of the Affair’ and ‘The Constant Gardener’ being just two examples. Hopefully Ralph’s Oscar win will come eventually, maybe the Academy are just biased, after all he is Voldemort.
