Conan O'Brien will be hosting the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, the nominees for which have only just been announced. The comedian announced the news on his TBS talkshow, Conan, earlier this week ahead of the April 13th ceremony. Taking the baton from last year's host Rebel Wilson, 2014 will be the first time that Conan has hosted the movie awards.

O'Brien is no stranger to hosting such glamorous awards show though: he has hosted the Emmy Awards twice. The Emmy-awarded comedian joked: "After eight years of intense negations, I am honoured to announce I am hosting MTV's second most prestigious awards show."

"There's only one award in the world that truly matters. I'm talking about the MTV Movie Award. The golden popcorn. Isn't she beautiful?" Conan said, adding "I am proud to announce that I, Conan O'Brien, will fulfil my lifelong dream and host the MTV movie awards," he added, holding one of the statuettes up to the camera.

After the pre-Oscars awards tension, the MTV Movie Awards will be a relaxed and joyous affair as the year's biggest movie stars get a taste of the MTV magic. Following suit from the Oscars, 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street are of course up for Movie of the Year alongside fantasy action epics The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Jennifer Lawrence

The Oscars' lead actress winner Cate Blanchett is nowhere to be seen amongst the MTV nominees for the same award, with Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston and Lupita Nyong'o fighting it out in the shaken-up category. However, lead actor Oscar winner Matthew Mcconaughey will be fighting for an MTV Movie award alongside Bradley Cooper, Josh Hutcherson, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leonardo Dicaprio.

Leonardo DiCaprio

The MTV Movie Awards ceremony stands out on the awards calendar for its quirky and random awards, such as Best Kiss, Best Fight, Best Scared-As-S**t Performance, Best Shirtless Moment and Best WTF Moment. Notable nominees from the latter category include the rolling bus scene from Anchorman 2, Cameron Diaz having sex with a car in The Counselor and Leonardo DiCaprio's drugged-up Lamborghini sequence in The Wolf of Wall Street.
