A Million Ways To Die In The West - Clip

Albert is a rather introverted sheep farmer who tries at all costs to avoid confrontation with the occasional gun-toting outlaw who may pass through the small Arizona town in which he lives. His reluctance to engage in any kind of combat has cost him his girlfriend, but on the upside, he's still alive - which is more than can be said for a large percentage of townspeople. There is danger is every turn and Albert is feeling a little low in confidence - that is, until the arrival of the town's feisty new resident Anna. She wants to show him how to aim and fire a loaded pistol and, generally, how to win a fight, which is just as well because one man is on his way over with the intention of dominating the town with his formidable reputation. Unfortunately for Albert, he's Anna's estranged husband and, with Albert having spent so much time with her, it is starting to look like he's finally run out of luck.

Liam Neeson, James Cromwell Favourites For Spielberg's 'The BFG'

Steven Spielberg James Cromwell Liam Neeson

Oscar nominees Liam Neeson and James Cromwell are the early favourites to land the lead role in Steven Spielberg's The BFG. Towering Hollywood star Neeson is available at 6/1 with Paddy Power, while Cromwell - a character actor of the highest quality - is the frontrunner at 2/1.

James CromwellWill James Cromwell Play The BFG?

Elsewhere, the UK's very own Stephen Merchant is in with a shout at 10/1, while Britain's Got Talent judge David Walliams is at 20/1. David Hasselhoff could resurrect his acting career and is a 50/1 shot - which would be ridiculous - while Premier League football Peter Crouch is 250/1.

Khumba Review

Very Good

When this South African animated adventure embraces its unique setting and characters, it's visually stunning and a lot of fun. But it also tries to force everything into a trite Hollywood formula, unnecessarily adding clunky songs, goofy comedy sidekicks and big action set-pieces. Still, there's enough fresh storytelling and lively humour to keep us engaged, and some spectacular animation too.

It's set in the Great Karoo desert, where a herd of zebras has fenced off its own watering hole. But as a drought sets in, bullied half-striped zebra Khumba (voiced by Jake T. Austin) becomes worried about the animals outside. When he hears about a mythical pond that can restore his stripes and supply water to everyone, he leaves his best pal Tombi (AnnaSophia Robb) to take an epic trek across the desert. Along the way he picks up a variety of goofy travelling companions, including a hyena (Steve Buscemi), buffalo (Loretta Devine) and ostrich (Richard E. Grant). But he's also hunted by the vicious half-blind leopard Phango (Liam Neeson), who blames Khumba for his own hot-tempered misfortunes.

The animators far surpass the simplistic script with imagery that takes the breath away, from expansive landscapes to cleverly designed characters. And as the wacky sidekicks continually try to push the film over into slapstick silliness, the startlingly violent Phango reminds us of the darker side of nature as well as some deeper African cultural issues. This mix sometimes feels jarring, but that works in the film's favour. As do some inspired comical gags involving, for instance, a nutty sheep (Catherine Tate), a gang of hilariously agreeable meerkats and a herd of dumb-jock springboks.

Liam Neeson DIDN'T Give Dog-Abusing Central Park Thugs The Movie Star Treatment

Liam Neeson

Remember when John Malkovic saved the life of a man who managed to slit his throat in the street? Well, it was reported that Liam Neeson apparently saved a stray dog when kids were throwing stones at it. This, however, has been denied by the star.

Reports suggested the Non-Stop actor came across “Three gangbanger wannabe types who were throwing rocks at a stray they’d cornered up against a trash bin,” a source told ShowbizSpy.com.

Forget The Oscars, Liam Neeson's 'Non-Stop' Has Topped The Box-Office

Liam Neeson

While all eyes were on the 86th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday evening (March 2, 2014), box-office boffins were tapping away on their calculators to figure out who had reigned supreme at the theaters. Liam Neeson's latest thriller Non-Stop - which received decent to middling reviews last week - was top of the shop, taking $30 million between Friday and Sunday.

Non Stop Liam NeesonLiam Neeson in 'Non-Stop'

Neeson plays an air marshal who must stop a string of murders on an international flight. It's pretty standard fare from the Irish actor, though since Taken, Neeson has found that there's a huge appetite for his action-thrillers.

Somehow, Critics Don't Think 'Non-Stop' Is Terrible, But It's Still Pretty Bad

Liam Neeson Gillian Anderson

Stripping down Non-Stop into the ingredients that make it gives a good indication as to what you should expect: Liam Neeson. Air Marshal. Crazed terrorist demanding money. 40,000 feet in the air. Gillian Anderson. Bomb. Cryptic text messages.

Liam Neeson, Non-StopLiam Neeson doing what he does best 'bemused proffesional'

Sounds bad, no? Well it is, but – according to a bunch of critics – not as bad as you might think. We had this pinned down as a 13% stinker on Rotten Tomatoes, but would appear as though the review-aggregating site has totted the reviews up to the sum of 59%, at the time of writing anyway.

"Non-Stop" Gets Cautious Thumbs Up From Critics [Trailer + Pictures]

Liam Neeson Julianne Moore

We already know that Liam Neeson is good under pressure – or his characters are, anyway. Now we’re about to see what happens when you put the man up in the air. In his latest film, Neeson plays an air marshall on a non-stop flight, which (of course) gets hijacked. The critics are already (mostly) in love with Non-Stop and with Neeson’s performance in particular.

Liam Neeson, Non-Stop
Believable this is not, but the critics are in love anyway.

Non-Stop is a crisp, efficient thriller that benefits greatly from the intangibles Neeson can be counted on to supply,” says the LA Times’ Kenneth Turan, noting the tangible urgency in Neeson’s acting, as well as Jaume Collet-Serra’s expert direction.

Non-stop Review

Very Good

With a premise not much more believable than Snakes on a Plane, this slickly made thriller entertains us from start to finish by never flinching once. It may be utterly ridiculous, but it's played with full-on dedication by a gifted cast and a filmmaker who knows how to ramp up tension out of thin air, so to speak. Yes, it's utterly idiotic, but it's so much fun that we want a sequel even before this film crashes to the ground.

Relapsed alcoholic Air Marshal Bill (Neeson) has far too much personal baggage as he heads to work on a trans-Atlantic flight. Still grieving over his daughter's death as he drinks a bit of coffee with his whiskey, his hopes of a quiet flight are soon dashed when he receives an in-flight text threatening to kill a passenger every 20 minutes if he doesn't pay a huge ransom. So he kicks into action-man gear. But things start getting seriously surreal as he struggles to find anyone on the plane who doesn't look shifty. He seeks assistance from steely stewardess Nancy (Dockery) and too-helpful passenger Jen (Moore). But everyone begins to wonder if Bill might be the real villain here.

Filmmaker Collet-Serra packs the screen with red herrings, as all of the passengers fire wary glances at each other, moan about the general chaos of the flight and do all of those stupid things that make air travel so tiresome. The only thing missing is a screaming baby. Not that you'd hear it above the crazed panic this cat-and-mouse situation induces. It's so frantic that we barely have time to wonder how someone could get on a plane with a briefcase full of cocaine. Or a bomb. So we just hang on as the turbulence escalates.

Liam Neeson has broken his silence five year after the tragic death of his wife Natasha Richardson in an emotionally raw interview on 60 Minutes with Anderson Cooper. Richardson, the English actress, died on the 18th March 2009 after she hit her head in a skiing accident in Quebec. The Lego Movie Review

Excellent

Inventive visuals and a seriously deranged script make this animated adventure far more enjoyable than we expect, especially as it brings out the childish creativity in everyone watching. Filmmakers Lord and Miller are experts at finding offbeat comedy in the most surprising places (see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs or 21 Jump Street). And this movie is often jaw-droppingly entertaining.

It's set in a Lego city where construction worker Emmet (voiced by Pratt) follows instructions to the letter. Like everyone else, he has been lulled into complacency by President Business (Ferrell), whose inanely catchy pop songs (the insanely hummable Everything Is Awesome!) and mindless TV shows (Where Are My Pants?) keep people from thinking creatively. He's also concocting an insidious plan involving a secret weapon called the Kragle. Then Emmet inadvertently discovers the Piece of Resistance and is declared "The Special" by the underground rebel alliance led by Wyldstyle (Banks) and Vitruvius (Freeman). With help from Batman (Arnett), a patched-up pirate (Offerman) and a groovy kitty (Brie), they go off-grid to save their civilisation, pursued by the president's vicious enforcer (Neeson).

As the story spirals from the city to the Wild West and Cloud Cuckoo Land, it develops an insane, free-wheeling tone that can't help but spark our imaginations. And the sassy 3D animation adds to this by evoking surreal stop-motion classics like Gumby or The Magic Roundabout while referencing other movies and playing merrily with iconic characters. Hill, Smulders and Tatum turn up as a trio of frustrated superheroes, while Daniels and Williams offer a bit of Star Wars silliness. All of the vocal cast members dive into their characters with energy, bringing out the warped humour and pulling us into the action and even some emotional moments.

Danish company The Lego Group have partnered up with Warner Brothers for the first feature length Lego film, The Lego Movie, set to hit the big screen in 2014.

A child's imagination is what made Lego blocks what they were. They could make a spaceship, a Wild West shootout or even a pirate ship come to life; well, maybe for a few hours until the few remaining pieces left out were embedded in a parent's foot.  Now it has reached a safer place for adults as the loveable figures make their way from the toy box onto the big-screen in 3D animation comes Warner Brothers production:  'The Lego Movie'. With a highly admirable voiceover cast of Will Arnett, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Channing Tatum and Elizabeth Banks, the film looks ready to be a 2014 BLOCK-buster sensation.

Panic! New Study! Guns In Films! Shooting! What Should You Do?

Liam Neeson

S**t. We’d better stock up on tinned butter beans and thick socks; we might be down here for a while. A study released in the December edition of Pediatrics states that PG-13 films feature gun violence 2.6 times-an-hour, which is way more than R-rated films.

This means the ratings are a bit off, probably. But it could mean an army of 12-year-olds – clad in Finding Nemo pyjamas - will take to the streets armed to the nines with the most advanced weaponry known to western civilisation. As law-abiding citizens, we just have to hope it doesn’t come to that.

Bill Marks is a U.S. federal air marshal who ironically can't stand plane journeys. His hatred for flying is only about to get a lot worse when an anonymous person breaks through the secure network on his phone to send him a threatening text explaining that they're going to kill a person on the plane every twenty minutes unless $150 million is transferred to an offshore account number. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues - International Trailer

The news used to be a noble profession before the likes of Ron Burgundy with his set of San Diego anchors Brian Fantana, Brick Tamland and Champ Kind took over. Now it's all about scandal, debauchery and vulgarity and Burgundy and his team are fighting hard to keep it that way. As per usual, they manage to get themselves in all kinds of trouble involving drugs in the studio, completely inappropriate news headlines, accidental racism (not to mention homophobia) and, of course, getting laid, and it's all in a bid to remain on top of the media as Ron fights his own battle to professionally tower over his wife and rival Veronica.

'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' is the even more hilarious sequel to 2004's 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'. There's definitely more laughs to be had from everyone's favourite news readers as Judd Apatow ('The 40 Year Old Virgin', 'Knocked Up', 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall') returns to produce it. Director Adam McKay ('Step Brothers', 'The Other Guys', 'Talladega Nights') is also back alongside his co-writer and star Will Ferrell. It is set to feature in cinemas just in time for Christmas, premiering in theatres everywhere on December 20th 2013.

On his travels, he meets a motherly wildebeest named Mama V and her wacky friend Bradley the Ostrich who are willing to travel with him and protect him from the ills of the wild, namely Phango the Leopard whose presence is a threat to every other creature in Great Karoo. Anchorman 2 Trailer

Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Brick Tamland and Champ Kind have now hit the eighties and things are a little different. The legendary San Diego news anchors are now embarking on a different project, as part of a 24 hour news channel, but now they have fresh competition in the form of a young, handsome and well-dressed fellow anchor. Ron continues to put himself in sticky situations, this time involving some awkward racism with his new girlfriend's family during a social occasion among many other things. Will their antics extend beyond their previous capers involving angry bears and mean bikers?  Or will the eighties bring with it a more streetwise news bunch? We doubt the latter.

The sequel to 2004's 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' is set to hit our screens soon entitled 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues'. We'll likely be seeing yet more hijinks from one of Hollywood's favourite comedy casts as they return following at massive $85 million gross from the original movie. Produced again by Judd Apatow ('The 40 Year Old Virgin', 'Knocked Up', 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall'), Adam McKay ('Step Brothers', 'The Other Guys', 'Talladega Nights') also makes a return as director and co-writer alongside Will Ferrell. It is scheduled for release in the UK on December 20th 2013.

"Neil is an extremely gifted and inventive performer, and we look forward to seeing what he has in store this year." A hugely popular awards show host, Harris said he "couldn't be more honored and excited" to host the Emmys - the biggest date on the television industry's calendar. Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Brick Tamland and Champ Kind return in this hilarious sequel to 2004's 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' which saw Ron land himself a hot girlfriend, get attacked by a bear and have his dog thrown over a bridge by an angry biker. The legendary San Diego news anchors are doubtlessly set to entertain us with more news casting exploits which, according to the latest teaser trailer, will involve 'submachine guns and boobies' and getting 'stinky'. One thing's for sure, it's going to be funnier, weirder and much ruder.

Good Genes Or Good Ops: Which Male Celebrities Don't Show Their Age?

Anthony Kiedis David Beckham Tom Cruise Jim Carrey George Clooney Eddie Murphy Wayne Coyne Colin Firth Antonio Banderas Bono Kevin Spacey Prince Donny Osmond Tom Hanks Christoph Waltz Anthony Bourdain Bruce Willis Jeff Daniels Rowan Atkinson Chris Noth Denzel Washington Liam Neeson Jeff Goldblum Bruce Springsteen Lionel Richie Jeff Bridges Samuel L Jackson Jeremy Irons David Letterman Ted Danson Harrison Ford Amitabh Bachchan Morgan Freeman Dustin Hoffman Dick Van Dyke Roger Moore Rolling Stones

We've all had that moment; looking at photos of our favourite celebs and then jumping out of our seats screaming, 'He's HOW old?!' Well, we've been doing a lot of that here at ContactMusic. Some stars seem to have crept up the age ladder pretty sneakily, the odd wrinkle and grey hair barely registering on our radar, while others don't seem to have aged at all! English football player David Beckham was in his twenties when he rose to global popularity and, looking at his recent H&M underwear advert, it seems that his iconic hairstyles and tattoos are our only way of working out the old from the newer pictures of him. However, he is only 37 and has plenty of time to catch up yet. It's the over-50s that have really had our mouths agape in recent times as we've been scouring the net for the most youthful looking middle to old aged stars.

Box Office Round Up: Taken 2 Has Taken Lots More In Week 2

Ben Affleck Liam Neeson Tim Burton Adam Sandler

This week's top Box Office successes come as something of a surprise; While Ben Affleck's newest directorial offering, Argo, was a massive critical success, it still failed to beat Taken 2, which clings onto the number one spot despite utterly awful critical responses. Here is our box-office roundup for the week:

The extraordinary success of the Liam Neeson thriller, Taken 2, has continued, with the film now grossing a domestic taking of $86.1m over two weeks. Argo, in contrast, which has already been dubbed “one of the best movies of the year” by Rolling Stone, took just over $19m in its first week: over $2m less than Taken 2's second week. Adam Sandler's Hotel Transylvania is still fairing well, coming in at #4 in its third week with takings of $17.2m, which is excellent for a kids film. Tim Burton's Frankenweenie on the other hand has slipped right down to 7th place in its second week, taking just $7m which will no doubt come as a surprise and disappointment for the Halloween film veteran.

The rest of the top ten looks a little something like this; in at #3 is week one of horror movie Sinister which took $18m, Here Comes the Boom opens at #5 with $11m, #6 is Pitch Perfect with $9.2m, Looper slips to #8th in its third week with £6.2m. British comedy Seven Psychopaths is at #9 taking almost $4.2 and finally, Perks of Being a Wallflower stays in the top ten for a fourth week with $2.1m.

Taken 2 Tops Argo In Box Office Chart: Do Movie Reviews Really Matter?

Ben Affleck Liam Neeson Ethan Hawke

Taken 2 has beaten Argo in the battle of the box office takings.

Somewhat surprisingly, given the praise that has been heaped on the Ben Affleck thriller Argo, and the sense of malaise that appears to have accompanied Taken 2, Liam Neeson's own dramatic thriller took $22.5 million (£14.03 million) this week, whilst Argo took $20.1 million (£12.53 million). In third place was Ethan Hawke’s supernatural horror, Sinister, which received mixed reviews but weighed in with a respectable $18.3 million (£11.4 million).

This week’s box office results must have the critics scratching their heads in bemusement, wondering just what their ‘raison d’etre’ is, exactly. After all, Taken 2 was largely stamped with ‘steer clear’ with many critics slamming it for being all too similar to the original Taken movie and questioning just what the point of a sequel was in the first place. Argo, on the other hand, already has an Oscars-buzz forming around it. Critical opinion has not translated into box office rankings, though: “It kind of proves that reviews do not matter,” says Paul Dergarabedian of Hollywood.com, whilst movie critics the world over cling desperately to their jobs.

Taken 2 Wins Box Office Weekend, As Frankenweenie Slips.

Liam Neeson Tim Burton Adam Sandler Paul Thomas Anderson

Action-thriller Taken 2 performed remarkably well at this weekend’s Box Office, gleaning $50m in one of the most successful October debuts. The Liam Neeson thriller beat out Frankenweenie – last week’s chart-topper - with ease. Here’s our Box Office roundup.

Hurtling into the #1 spot, Taken 2 used some of the good grace from its predecessor to take the weekend by storm. Whist Taken was considered a commercial and critical success, the sequel can only really claim the former, as the critics have all but panned the revenge thriller. Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie endured a slow start with a paltry return of $11.5 million. The Disney release about a boy who brings his dead dog back to life was expected to do better, so will face increased scrutiny in the weeks to come. Another ‘comedy-horror’, Hotel Transylvania dropped to second-place with $26.3m. So far, Adam Sandler's animated hit film has earned $76m domestically and $105.3m worldwide, in an impressive first week. Pitch Perfect climbed three to #3 with $14.7m, while time-travel thriller Looper fell to #4 with $12.2m.

The rest of the top 10 looks something like this: End of Watch at #6 with $4 million. Trouble with the Curve comes in at #7 with $3.9 million. Horror film, House at the End of the Street drops to #8 with $3.7 million. At #9 is Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master with $1.8 million, and the 3D re-release of the aquatic fun-time tale Finding Nemo is at #10 with $1.6 million.

The Dark Knight Rises Review

Extraordinary
When the credits roll at the end of this overlong action epic, it feels like we've just turned the final page of an immersive novel. It takes about an hour to find its stride, but Nolan's final Batman movie is also thunderously complex and entertaining.

It's eight years later, and Commissioner Gordon (Oldman) has allowed the press to create a myth that Batman was a villain. Badly injured, Bruce Wayne (Bale) has become a recluse, tended to by his butler Alfred (Caine). Then a new baddie arrives: Bane (Hardy) is part of the League of Shadows, trained by Bruce's old nemesis Ra's al Ghul (Neeson) to purge the world of human decadence. So Bruce turns to Wayne company boss Lucius (Freeman) to get back in fighting shape, deciding to trust a slippery cat burglar (Hathaway) and a rookie cop (Gordon-Levitt).

Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham after eight years in The Dark Knight Rises, his alias Batman nursing a sore reputation after the last film, The Dark Knight, where he assumed responsibility for the attorney Harvey Dent's crimes in order to protect Dent's name after he loses his life during The Joker's assault on the city. This time he intends to defend Gotham City from a new villain: the virtually indestructible Bane who, as discovered by Commissioner Gordon, is plotting the obliteration of the entire city from the inside.

Battleship Review

Very Good
You'd have to go back to 1998's Armageddon to find another film that so adeptly combines whopping apocalyptic action and corny save-the-planet heroics. Even if this feels like low-rent Michael Bay, it's a definitive popcorn blockbuster: a dumb movie that keeps us blissfully entertained.

Alex (Kitsch) is a smart guy who has wasted his life so, after getting in trouble while impressing a hot girl (Decker), his Naval-officer brother (Skarsgard) drafts him into service. Later on a Pacific Rim war-game exercise, Alex ends up in charge of the only ship nearby after aliens invade earth and put a force-field around Hawaii. Working with his plucky crew (including Rihanna, Asano, Tui and Plemons), Alex must figure out how to out-wit these Transformer-like killers. By the way, the hot girl turns out to be the daughter of the admiral (Neeson).

Wrath Of The Titans Review

Good

While this sequel is just as loud and chaotic as 2010's Clash of the Titans remake, it's also considerably more fun due to some exhilarating action and a refreshing sense of humour. It also looks amazing in 3D on an Imax screen.

Years later, the now-widowed hero Perseus (Worthington) is trying to live as an anonymous fisherman with his pre-teen son Helius (Bell). Then he hears about stirrings of a coming calamity. Indeed, his father Zeus (Neeson) has been kidnapped by Hades (Fiennes) and Ares (Ramirez) as pat of a plan to release Zeus and Hades' evil father Kronos from the underworld. So Perseus teams up with Queen Andromeda (Pike) and rogue demigod Agenor (Kebbell), son of Poseidon (Huston), to rescue his father and stop his brother, uncle and grandfather.

Yes, this is one seriously dysfunctional family, as four generations of men set out to either destroy the world or save it. To be honest, it's never clear why Hades and Ares are so hellbent, as it were, on cataclysmic destruction, but at least this also allows for changing alliances as the story progresses. Not that there's much story, really, as the plot essentially just links a series of action set-pieces.

Fortunately, most of these sequences are entertaining enough to keep us gripped. Highlights include a rather fabulous dragon attack and a desperate, full-on fight with cyclops-giants in a forest. Less convincing are a convoluted underworld rescue-battle and the climactic assault on the volcano-sized Kronos, who rains down fire and destruction rather selectively. (There's also the problem of how the filmmakers can top Kronos in the probable sequel.)

Along the way, there are some refreshing moments of deranged humour, mainly in Kebbell's snarky dialog, Pike's sharp glances and a particularly colourful turn by Nighy (as super-spear smelter Hephaestus). But as the story progresses, there's more than a whiff of Lord of the Rings (the fires of Mount Doom, plus some pointless two-torsoed Orc-a-likes), Harry Potter (the three-pronged Deathly Hallows) and even Star Wars (all that father-son angst). But filmmaker Liebesman keeps things moving briskly, wowing us with so much eye-candy that we just sit back and enjoy the rickety ride for what it is.

The Grey Review

Good
The story (by cowriter Jeffers) this film is based on was clearly inspired by Jack London's famously bleak short story To Build a Fire, pitting a man against the elements in the harsh, snowy Arctic wilderness. It's a very well-made film, but not very easy to engage with.

Ottway (Neeson) works as a wolf-sniper for a petrol company in the far reaches of Alaska, but is struggling with thoughts of suicide because he misses his wife (Openshaw) so much. Then on a flight to Anchorage, the plane is hit by a severe storm and goes down in the middle of nowhere. There are a handful of survivors, and Ottway soon becomes the leader when they are menaced by howling, growling wolves. Knowing they'd be safer in the treeline, he leads five other men from one peril to another.
