One Direction star Liam Payne has teased solo material in what would be his first work released since the pop-starlets went on hiatus.

The 23-year-old is the third member of the five to release solo material after Niall Horan, who himself has recently been making the headlines after admitting to having a crush on Ellie Goulding, and Zayn Malik -the latter, of course, triggering a mini-crises in the group after his departure from 1D in March 2015.

The short audio clip was shared by Payne to Instagram and it has already been heard over 700,000 times. The picture has no caption, but there is a hint to who he is working with in who the star has tagged.

Payne has tagged Danny Boy Styles, who has previously worked with Beyonce and French Montana, and Ben Billions, who has just worked with The Weeknd on the track 'Starboy', a track which also features legendary French producer duo, Daft Punk.  Bibi Bourelly, the German singer-songwriter who has written for Rihanna and Nick Brewer, was also credited in the post.

The track is a sorrow-filled affair that seems to talk about his relationship with Cheryl Cole and the tribulations that have come from dating someone recently divorced.

However, in spite of Payne putting a sample of the track on Instagram, he admits he is unsure as to whether it will be officially released. It would be surprising to see the track not given a proper release with One Direction's musical career on standby and after the success of Zayn's release, there is clearly a market for Payne's work.
