Rapper Lil Boosie has vowed to tackle his drug addictions while serving eight years behind bars.
The hip-hop star was sentenced to the stint on Tuesday (28Nov11) after he confessed to attempting to smuggle codeine syrup into jail on three separate occasions while serving time for a previous drug and gun possession charge.
He asked a judge to send him to a rehab facility, but the court officials decided to incorporate treatment as part of his prison sentence.
Now Boosie - who is due to stand trial for a first-degree murder charge in March (12) - is determined to use his incarceration to finally overcome his drug demons.
He tells Tmz in a statement, "Don't worry about me, I am getting help with my drug addiction and I am accepting full responsibility for the choice I made."
He adds about his impending trial, "I am going to fight the false murder charge 'til the end."
The rapper is accused of hiring hitmen to kill Terry Boyd in October 2009.
