Lily Allen Provokes Backlash After Suggesting Football Should Be Banned

Lily Allen

Lily Allen has triggered yet another Twitter storm, this time by taking to the social media platform to call for the sport of football to be banned for British children.

The frequently outspoken singer, 32, made the remark as part of a larger discussion around ways to prevent children from being sexually abused. She shared a link to a report regarding Operation Hydrant, a police probe into child sex abuse in sport, and suggested that it was “time we talked about banning sports in this country”.

Lily, a mother of two young daughters, made the comment in reply to a different poster who had written: “I’m quite tired of people who think rape or sexual assault is just this special evil problem that only Muslim blokes do to us poor Westerners, when it’s a problem in pretty much every society thanks to toxic masculinity.”

Lily Allen

The day after a significant social media backlash when she complained that she and her family might be “homeless at Christmas”, Lily Allen looks like she might be getting her home back after all, after removal vans were spotted outside her London property.

However, it seems that the tenants are now on their way, with removal vans being pictured outside the £1.5 million property in Notting Hill on Wednesday (December 6th), so it seems as if Lily will get her way.

Apparently, there are people who believe that since Lily Allen is a celebrity, she doesn't have the same rights as anyone else. She complained about a family of foreign diplomats who preached 'diplomatic immunity' when their tenancy on her flat ended, which means that she was unable to move into her own property.

The rapper removed his album overnight between Monday and Tuesday, and it is currently unavailable to stream in the US and Canada. It is, for the moment, still accessible for UK users. Instead, North American fans can find it on – you guessed it – Tidal.

Lily Allen On Why She Turned Down "Smug" Band-Aid 30

Lily Allen

Lily Allen has revealed that she turned down the opportunity to sing on the new Band Aid 30 record because she considered the project "smug". In an interview in the Mail On Sunday's Event magazine, Allen quite rightfully suggested she would rather donate the money herself than sign up for what she dubbed a "success club" of celebrities.

Lily AllenLily Allen has branded the Band Aid 3 single "smug", saying she would rather donate the money herself

"I got an email asking me to do it," she explained. "It's difficult to explain why I didn't do it without sounding like a complete ****. I prefer to do my charitable bit by donating actual money and not being lumped in with a bunch of people like that."

Lily Allen, the English singer/songwriter known for her single, 'Smile', has reportedly gotten new management. This comes in the form of AMA Manager of the Year, Scott Rodger, and Henry Village from Stack House Management. The news was first revealed by Billboard when they reported a cover story on a collection of UK managers that have teamed up to create Maverick, a new managing group, of which Rodger is a member.

Sam Smith Beaten By Lana Del Rey To Billboard No.1

Sam Smith Lana Del Rey Lily Allen

Besides a promising musician, Sam Smith’s debut record has also shown him to be a savvy businessman – but not enough. In an effort to boost US sales and get the album to Number 1 on the Billboard 200, Smith’s management kept In The Lonely Hour off Spotify. The album did well, selling 166,000 copies in its first week, but ultimately fell short of Lana Del Rey’s sophomore effort Ultraviolence. The sultry pop record sold 182,000 units for Capitol Records, making it the biggest (bigger) debut of Lana’s career.

Lana Del Rey
Despite Smith's Spotify gamble, this round went to Lana.

Still, it wasn’t a bad week for Smith. Besides the respectable debut of In The Lonely Hour,  the singer-songwriter also discovered a lost connection recently. The saga of Smith’s relation to Lily Allen and her brother, Game of Thrones actor Alfie Allen unfolded over Twitter, when Smith tweeted at the Sheezus hitmaker that, according to his parents, they were third cousins. To his surprise, Lily quickly responded, confirming his suspicion.
