Linkin Park - One More Light Album Review

Having shed their nu-metal skin long ago, Linkin Park have released their seventh album of new material and first since 2013. Their reported sales figures of over 70 million albums is testament to an outfit who have outstayed their new millennium peers, while their standing as a live draw sees them play three UK arena shows in July.

Linkin Park - One More Light Album Review

If you have heard the songs that have preceded this album's release, then you have already sampled the best of what is Linkin Park's most commercially pop collection. 'Battle Symphony' is their signature stomping anthem, but without the guitars cranked up, while 'Invisible' is an apologetic sing-a-long which fits snugly to daytime radio. The collaborations offer the greatest results with Pusha T and Stormzy joining co-vocalist Mike Shinoda on 'Good Goodbye' which help make up for the weak chorus, while Chester Bennington makes amends for this when joined by Kiara on the R&B flavoured 'Heavy'.

The remaining album tracks are at best filler; with the title track in particular a weak attempt at tender balladry that simply doesn't suit. 'Nobody Can Save Me' is a nice opener when you expect something with more attitude and energy, while they fall into by-numbers territory on 'Halfway Right'. There's nothing wrong with trying something different and in many ways it is to be admired, but ultimately the results here fall short of a band who not long ago could legitimately claim to be amongst the global elite of rock acts.

Linkin Park Don't Care About Sell Out Gripes

Linkin Park Chester Bennington

Linkin Park ''don't care'' if people think they've sold out.

The US rockers - who will release their seventh studio album, 'One More Light', later this month following a three-year absence - are not interested in critics of their current, more poppy, sound and don't think people should read too much into it.

Frontman Chester Bennington said: ''We were asked, 'What do you think of people who say you sold out?' I don't care.

Download Festival 2014 Review

Download Festival 2014 was a tamer affair than in previous years, largely owing to the event's tightened alcohol and drugs searches, bands being instructed not to encourage the crowds to mosh, more mainstream main stage headliners, fewer boobs being shown on the live camera feed, and the sombre tone of the renamed 'Stephen Sutton Stage'. Instead of holding a silence for the cancer-struck teen, festival attendees took part in a minute of respectful applause, which was paralleled by comedy pop punk band Bowling For Soup's tribute to the late comic, Rik Mayall.

Download Festival 2014 Review

In memoriam sections aside, the festival managed to transform what could be perceived as a weaker line-up compared to its preceding year into a three-day celebration of a broad range of the rock spectrum, filled with bespoke performance gems and quality heavy metal memories. First night closers Avenged Sevenfold brought a larger stage to Donington than they'd ever taken out of the US and combined imposing crypt-inspired adornments with an explosive set that proved on a world stage that they are worthy successors to titans Metallica and Iron Maiden.

The beady-eyed punter will have had a ball spotting the odd and hilarious happenings across the weekend, including a "face-melting" washboard solo from Berlin faux cowboys The BossHoss, punk's immature popsters Bowling For Soup asking a knight to decapitate a giant inflatable sheep, full contact medieval fighting from Battle Heritage, and Killswitch Engage's Jesse Leach inviting the crowd to "dance responsibly" to a particularly heavy breakdown. Ribs were probably broken in the latter instance.

10 Million Milestone For Adele's 21

Adele Pink Floyd Dire Straits Michael Jackson Linkin Park Usher

Just in case you were in any doubt over just how successful, talented, adored and, indeed, rich Adele was, the news broke today that the British singer has now sold 10 million copies of her second album, 21. Cue lots of pictures of her clutching her Brits statuettes and an armful of Grammy gongs...

She’s reached this incredible milestone less than two years since the album was released and 21 now has the honour of being the UK’s fifth biggest-selling album of all time, meaning that the album is now officially more popular than Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits as well as the Michael Jackson albums Bad and Thriller. That’s no mean feat for the singer, who’s now 24 and has just recently given birth to her first child. This news means that Adele is the third artist to have clocked up sales of 10 million from one album this year. Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory (2000) and Usher’s Confessions (2004) have also crossed that milestone though obviously Adele’s ascent was a far swifter one and all the more impressive for that.

Adding to this impressive list of accolades, 21 is also the most downloaded album in history. Since she gathered up that armful of Grammy awards at the start of the year, it has seemed that Adele’s second album shows no signs of abating, its associated success stories just keep on rolling in. Congratulations once more, Adele!

One Dead And 19 Injured Outside Linkin Park Gig In South Africa

Linkin Park

A woman had died and 19 other people have been injured at a Linkin Park concert in Cape Town, South Africa, according to the BBC. The band were unaware that temporary scaffolding outside the Green Point stadium, where they were playing, had collapsed and so played their set. However it was confirmed by a spokesperson to the BBC that "One person passed away last night as a result of injuries. It was a female individual. She passed away after she was taken to hospital.”

Finding out about the news after playing their show, Linkin Park quickly wrote a statement on their website, which read: “Following our performance tonight at Cape Town Stadium, we were advised that several people were injured as a result of the collapse of an advertising tower erected by Lucozade in the parking area outside the venue.”

They added: “We wish to express our deep sadness and concern for those injured and our heartfelt condolences to the family of the fan who died as a result of her injuries. Though we have had no relationship with the sponsor or the entity responsible for erecting the structure, we take the safety of our fans very seriously and our thoughts are with all of those who were affected by this tragedy.”

Linkin Park, Living Things Album Review

As part of the post-Millennium nu-metal movement, the sextet that comprise Linkin Park found huge success with their debut 'Hybrid Theory', but have retained their popularity after seeing peers like Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach fall into obscurity. Now on their fifth studio album, they see out the latter part of the summer on a tour of North America.

Various Artists, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon Soundtrack Album Review

It seems apt that for the latest instalment of a franchise based on metal objects hitting other metal objects that the soundtrack reads like a who's who of Alt-Rock/Metal acts. The third album for the Transformers series continues in the tradition of the first three with Linkin Park, Goo Goo Dolls, and Taking Back Sunday being just a few of the acts to feature time and again, it's just a shame that as the films have lost the plot the music has too.
