Lionel Richie is playing Glastonbury 2015 in the famous 'legends' slot.
Lionel Richie has been confirmed to play the 'legends' slot on Sunday at next year's Glastonbury Festival. The soul man will no doubt be performing a selection of his biggest hits, including 'All Night Long', 'Dancing on the Ceiling' and 'Hello', in the tea-time slot that was occupied by Dolly Parton this summer.
Lionel Richie will play the Glastonbury legends slot next June
"We are over the moon," said festival co-organiser Emily Eavis, daughter of founder Michael Eavis. "We felt very lucky to get the call from a true Motown legend asking to play next year," she added.
"He's got so many amazing songs, to see him perform here on the farm is just going to be wonderful."
Richie said he was "really excited to play Glastonbury next year as it's one of the most iconic festivals in the world."
"It has a phenomenal history and the alumni of artists who have previously played is incredible so I'm honoured to be joining that club."
"It will be a really special moment for me and I can't wait to share it with everyone," the former Commodores man continued.
"I can now say 'Yes, I'm playing Glastonbury'."
Richie remains one of the most successful musicians of all time and has sold over 100 million records worldwide. His Glastonbury appearance will form part of the singer's UK tour in 2015.
Dolly Parton received acclaim for her hits-laden Glastonbury set this summer, with Neil Diamond, Dame Shirley Bassey and Sir Tom Jones previously playing the event. Tickets for next year's festival sold out in less than 30 minutes, though a small batch of tickets will become available in 2015 once the deadline for full payment expires.
