Little Mix have topped the UK albums chart this week with their fourth record Glory Days.

The girl group beat new releases from both Metallica and Bruno Mars to claim the top spot, for the first time in their career.

According to the Official Charts Company, the album had just over 96,000 combined sales, meaning the girls have also broken two chart records.

Glory Days is now the fastest-selling number one album by any girl group in the past 15 years, since Destiny’s Child’s Survivor in 2001.

It also has the highest first week sales for a chart topping album by a UK girl group since Spice Girls’ Spiceworld sold 192,000 copies back in 1997.

On Twitter the girls thanked their fans for their support, writing: “Four albums down the line & you've only gone & got us our FIRST EVER Number 1 album Your reaction to #GloryDays has been bloody amazing!"

"We say it all the time but we really do have the BEST fans in the world & we you to the and back! LET THE #GLORYDAYS ROLL the girls," the band added.

Elsewhere in the album chart Metallica entered at number two with their tenth studio album Hardwired… to Self-Destruct. At the number three spot is another new entry, Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic.
