Pop star Lorde's hit song Royals has been banned from the radio airwaves in San Francisco, California as the city's Giants baseball team prepare to take on the Kansas City Royals in the World Series.

Local broadcasting bosses at KFOG Radio and 96.5 Koit have chosen to pull the track from their playlists during the World Series championships because the New Zealand teen previously admitted she was inspired to write the track after seeing a photograph of famed former Kansas City Royals player George Brett signing baseballs in a magazine.

In response, radio executives at 99.7 The Point in Kansas City, Missouri have vowed to play the song every hour for 12 hours straight on Tuesday (21Oct14) as the Kansas City Royals prepare to face off with the San Francisco Giants in the first game of the World Series.
