Louis Theroux To Make Three New Documentaries For BBC Two In 2017

Louis Theroux

Renowned documentary maker Louis Theroux is to produce three more programmes for the BBC in 2017, variously covering murder, sex trafficking and opiate dependency.

The 46 year old journalist is set to debut the three films on BBC Two before the end of the year, all of which will analyse “uniquely devastating challenges” that face America. Provisionally titled ‘Murder in Milwaukee’, ‘Sex Trafficking Houston’ and ‘Opiate City’, none of them are going to explore the rise of Donald Trump, despite previous reports that he’s working on a separate project concerning the newly elected president.

Louis Theroux

Louis Theroux's eagerly anticipated documentary 'My Scientology Movie' is finally here, taking this controversial subject on an unconventional journey. Unable to get the interviews he desires, this BBC filmmaker instead enlists a former Scientologist to help him audition actors to play out often violent events that Mark Rathbun and other defectors have all claimed to have occurred within the Church of Scientology under the supervision of leader David Miscavige.

Louis TherouxLouis Theroux has finally done a movie about Scientology

Directed by John Dower ('Thrilla in Manila', 'Live Forever'), 'My Scientology Movie' was written by and stars Louis Theroux, who was inspired by Joshua Oppenheimer's documentary 'The Act of Killing' in the creation of the film. The main crux of the movie is the recreation of various events allegedly witnessed by former members within the Church of Scientology. The idea for this approach came from the Church's repeated refusal to grant Theroux a conventional documentary.

My Scientology Movie Trailer

Louis Theroux is one of the UK's most respected and loved documentary makers. His down-to-earth persona and seemingly endless patience both contribute to the reasons why he's so successful at what he does.

His BBC documentaries started in the 90's where he'd spend weekends with various characters and extremists, over the course of the three series, Louis met with people ranging from porn stars, gangster rappers and extreme body builders. After 'Weird Weekends' came to an end, Louis went on to create 'When Louis Met...', a series that saw him meet with some of oddest British celebrities. Louis then made a return to the more conventional form of documentary film making which saw him meet up with The Westboro Baptist Church and many other radical groups.

Having covered such a ride range of issues and groups of people, there was one that Louis still felt the need to investigate, The Church of Scientology. Louis has previously commented that the religion and the constant barrage of rumors surrounding it makes it the 'Holy Grail of Stories'.

Louis Theroux To Make Second Jimmy Savile Documentary For The BBC

Louis Theroux

More than 15 years after he made his first documentary about Jimmy Saville, film-maker Louis Theroux is set to revisit the subject and explore how the disgraced former DJ and TV presenter was able to hide his horrific crimes of child abuse.

Theroux, now 45, filmed the documentary ‘When Louis Met Jimmy’ throughout 1999 and 2000. He struck up a friendship with Savile at the time, corresponding with him and occasionally staying at his house until roughly 2004. Since Savile’s evils were unmasked three years ago, Theroux has said that he feels a burden of responsibility for not being able to discover the truth despite getting so close to his subject.

Critics React To Louis Theroux's Latest Doc: 'LA Stories: City Of Dogs'

Louis Theroux

Since his ‘Weird Weekends’ and ‘When Louis Met’ series, Louis Theroux has been synonymous with conscientiously made, responsibly executed and – above all – incredibly watchable documentaries. The latest sees him delve into the corrupt, polarized and often startling world of Hollywood, with the first episode focussing on the area’s problems with stray and violent dogs.

The legendary singer/songwriter JJ Cale passed away in a California hospital on Friday (26 July) after suffering a heart attack at his nearby home, leaving behind a legacy that wont soon be forgotten. The Grammy-winning singer, guitarist and songwriter, who was 74-years-old when he passed away, was responsible for a string of hits that were made famous after being covered by some of the biggest names in rock music, including Tom Petty, Santana and most famously of all; Eric Clapton.

Since his passing last week, tribute have been pouring in from those wishing to pay their respects to the great musician, a man who helped invent the laid back and much-copied Tulsa Sound, a combination of country, blues and rock. Documentarian Louis Theroux shared his favourite Cale track in his online tribute, whilst one of Cale's many collaborators Tom Petty shared a backstage picture of the two from 2009, with the Twitter hashtag #RIPJJCale embedded into the Tweet. Louis Theroux Unsurprised By Jimmy Savile Child Abuse Allegations

Jimmy Savile Louis Theroux

Rumours of Jimmy Savile’s alleged child abuse have been floating around for years, and throughout much of his life. Louis Theroux touched upon this issue in the 2000 BBC documentary “When Louis Met Jimmy” and yet it remained unresolved. Now, almost a year after his death, there seems to be answer to the question, and yet, perhaps, no true resolution or retribution for the victims.

The Jimmy Savile documentary that will be broadcast this Wednesday on ITV1 (03/10/2012) purports to expose the “truth” of Savile's offences. The show includes the confessions of four of Savile's victims, all of whom were allegedly pursued and abused by Savile as teenagers, so reports the Daily Mail having been given an exclusive preview of the documentary.

Theroux, responded to the news of the imminent documentary on his Facebook page, saying: “I can’t say that I’m completely blindsided by these revelations. Still, it’s shocking and upsetting to have one’s worst fears confirmed.” In the original documentary in 2000, Jimmy came across partly as a bit of an egomaniac, but more than anything a little bizarre particularly in his Miss Havisham style preservation of the bedroom of the late “Duchess”, his mother.
