Lucy Hale felt ''very uncomfortable'' during her audition for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.

The 'Pretty Little Liars' actress has opened up about her awkward read-through for the lead role of Anastasia Steele in the big screen adaptation of E.L. James' kinky erotic novel, which features a number of explicit S&M and bondage scenes.

Hale said: ''It was a two-page monologue of exactly what you would think it would be. Very uncomfortable, but it was sort of one of those things where you just had to go for it or you're just gonna look lame - hopefully, I didn't look lame, but yeah. It was unlike any audition I have ever done before in my life.''

The 24-year-old starlet admitted she was initially attracted to the role because it was something ''different'' and ''risky'' compared to her best known character, Aria Montgomery.

However, the brunette beauty is glad the part eventually went to Dakota Johnson because she would have been mortified if her family had watched her act out X-rated sex scenes with Irish hunk Jamie Dornan, who stars as Anastasia's love-interest Christian Grey in the film.

Hale added to MTV News: ''Let's just say I wouldn't want my grandma watching this audition tape.''
