Lancôme are certainly revelling in the news which they have continued to announce throughout the day on their Twitter feed. Nyong'o is seemingly as pleased with their deal and she shared her new position on Instagram. In the short clip posted on the 31-year-old actress' Instagram page, Nyong'o announced her involvement with the cosmetics company. In the clip, she says "I am incredibly excited to let you know I am the new ambassadress for Lancôme."

Beauty fans commenting on Nyong'o and Lancôme's posts have been pleased with the company choosing a black woman to represent them as those with dark skin are considerably underrepresented in the beauty industry.

By signing this deal with Lancôme, Nyong'o joins the likes of such actresses as Isabella Rossellini, Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts and Uma Thurman. Models who have acted as spokeswomen for the company include Arlenis Sosa, Daria Werbowy and Rossellini's daughter, Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann.

In a recent interview with Women's Wear Daily, Nyong'o discussed her decision to work with Lancôme stating she believed the company are "not dictating what beauty is." She emphasised how she felt using actors as ambassadors is "significant because actors are not just faces, they are spirits that people enjoy and relate to more than in an aesthetic way," further adding "we have the privilege of standing for something other than just looks."

She continued by praising company for having a "range of produces for every woman." Nyong'o explained how she had delivered a speech on beauty shortly before attending the Oscars and thus it is an area which is evidently important to the Kenyan-Mexican actress. Nyong'o concluded by stating "hopefully it's a symbiotic relationship - that I benefit from being associated with them, and they benefit from being associated with me, as well."
