Macy Gray has vowed never to attempt singing the American national anthem again after being booed off stage at an American football game.

The I TRY singer was left humiliated after performing an off-key rendition of THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER at a 2001 exhibition game in her home town of Canton, Ohio.

But she insists she's learned from the painful experience.

Gray jokes, "That was definitely life's most embarrassing moment. You don't want to do that, you don't want to mess up the national anthem. And worse than that, I got on the press and I said, 'Yeah, they need to change that song anyway.'

"It's not my favourite song. I don't think I have the voice for it. You've gotta be like Whitney Houston to really blow that song out."
