Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer

It's been thirty years since the Rebel Alliance; led by the noble Luke Skywalker, the intrepid Princess Leia and the lionhearted Han Solo; finally defeated Emperor Palpatine of the Galactic Empire, alongside his redeemed assistant Darth Vader. The second Death Star was reduced to rubble, and the galaxy was free from a tyrannous evil once more. If only that were true. For there can never be good without evil, and sure enough another Dark Lord, Supreme Leader Snoke, has arisen to take the Emperor's place, with even more brutal plans for the civilians across the stars. But this time there are also new heroes, better equipped to deal with the ever looming terror thanks to an example set by the now ageing former Han, Luke and Leia. They are now preparing to help a vindicated former stormtrooper named Finn, an independent scavenger called Rey, and Poe Dameron who is a Resistance X-Wing pilot.

Secret Cinema Presents Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Review

Essential

Secret Cinema's Star Wars event is a mind-blowing experience of a lifetime for any Star Wars fan. Running in London over 100 nights from June 4th to September 27th, it's more than twice as big as last summer's gigantic Back to the Future project. The epic installation lets visitors live events from Episode IV: A New Hope before an interactive screening of Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, the best of the six films to date. And with a cast of 400 performers merging seamlessly into the costumed audience, it's an unforgettable evening.

It begins with an evacuation, as earth-based rebels are called to a secret London location. Before arriving, we are given an identity and wardrobe advice (I was Niles Torwyn, galactic explorer) and told to stay low and keep our faces covered. At Earth Cargo Airlines, we are herded into a loading bay and transported through space to Mos Eisley spaceport on the desert planet Tatooine, where we have several hours to walk around the bustling market town, paying for food and drink with galactic credits while engaging with the people around us. Speaking to strangers or walking into doorways will result in quests and training exercises. And among the crowd, there's a chance to interact with characters like Old Ben Kenobi, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2 and a gang of fast-talking Jawas, but avoid eye contact with the Storm Troopers. There are also special cocktails and music in the busy Cantina Bar before another transport whisks us off to a Rebel Base and the Death Star itself.

Along the way, virtually the entire final act of A New Hope is taking place around us, often in ways that send chills down the spine. It's a thrilling re-creation of a film that transformed our childhood, and there are at least two "wow" moments that are almost overwhelming. This is followed by the next chapter in the story, a bright digital screening of The Empire Strikes Back accompanied by some very cool live action. Originally released in 1980, the film stands up remarkably well with its sarcastic humour, brittle emotions and some very dark drama, leading to a wonderfully maddening cliffhanger ending. Best of all is the way the script remains centred on the characters, twisting and deepening them while allowing Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher to further develop their most iconic roles.

30 years ago, the Rebel Alliance struck their killing blow against the Galactic Empire. The Emperor has been defeated, and his right hand man, Darth Vader, is dead. The second Death Star has been destroyed, and celebration reigned across the galaxy. But it was not the victory we once thought it was. With Imperial soldiers scattered across the galaxy, the Storm Troopers have rallied behind a new leader, a new Dark Lord of the Sith. But old heroes will rise once again, and come out of retirement, to once again wage war across the stars. The Force has awakened once more.

The Rebel Alliance struck a terrific blow to the Galactic Empire with the destruction of the Death Star. But now, with the Emperor's right hand man, Darth Vader, on the hunt for Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the Alliance are going to have more difficulty fighting them off. Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is reluctantly still fighting alongside the Alliance, although his smuggling past and loner demeanour still rub wrongly with Leia Organa (Carry Fisher), who finds him to be nothing more than a stuck up, scruffy-looking Nerf herder. But their petty squabbling will have to be put aside when the Empire comes in search of Luke.

When Princess Leia Organa of Alderan (Carry Fisher) is captured on her way to deliver the plans to the Alliance, she is forced to send them inside a droid to the closest planet - Tatooine. There, a young moisture farmer, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who dreams of something greater for himself, is about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime, and save the galaxy along the way.

Kingsman: The Secret Service Review

Excellent

With virtually the same tone as they used in their superhero spoof Kick-Ass, filmmakers Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman take another riotously adult approach to pastiche, this time tackling the James Bond genre. Essentially they have made a 007 movie that refuses to tone itself down for the PG-13 audience, indulging in the profanity and excessive violence other films shy away from. So it doesn't really matter if the plot itself isn't quite as rebellious as it pretends to be.

Kingsman is a top-secret spy agency located in a Saville Row tailor, beholden to no corporation or government. Led by Arthur and Merlin (Michael Caine and Mark Strong), these gentlemanly super-agents use the names of the knights of the Round Table. And when one of them dies, they know it's time to get with the times and recruit someone young and hip. So they set up a rigorous school for trainees, with one lucky graduate set to earn a spot at the table. Harry, aka Galahad (Colin Firth), chooses rough East End teen Eggsy (Taron Egerton) as his candidate. The son of a former agent, Eggsy shows considerable promise even if he lacks the expected refinement. Then just before the final selection is made, they discover that mobile phone billionaire Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson) is up to something nefarious. So Eggsy and fellow rookie Roxy (Sophie Cookson) kick into action to figure out what he's up to, and stop him.

Despite constant reminders that "this isn't that kind of movie", it clearly is. Every Bond element is here, including the crazed villain with an elaborate lair and a technically augmented sidekick (Sofia Boutella's vicious blade-footed henchwoman Gazelle). The only difference is that where Bond hints cheekily at violence and sex, Vaughn and Goldman go for it. This film is packed with outrageous, over-the-top carnage and intensely rude dialogue, delivered with relish by the expert cast. Firth, Caine and Strong are terrific at combining tweedy propriety with public schoolboy naughtiness, while Jackson merrily plays around with Valentine's god-complex.

JJ Abrams Reacts To 'Star Wars VII' Millennium Falcon Leak...But Not How You’d Expect

Jj Abrams Carrie Fisher Mark Hamill Harrison Ford

With a movie as large and far-reaching as the new Star Wars, Episode VII, it was always going to be impossible to stop certain juicy details from leaking to the eager fanbase. Director Jj Abrams is notoriously secretive but even he has had to give in after a sneaky production team member shared several shots of the Millennium Falcon spaceship being built in some kind of hangar.

The director tweeted a photo of what appears to be the hologram chess board that appeared in the original Star Wars trilogy bearing a note that read "I wish people would stop leaking photos from Episode VII. And making ridiculous claims that the Millennium Falcon is in the movie. - JJ."

Basically, Abrams is making fun of all the people speculating over whether the Falcon will be featured in the movie by saying 'yes fools, of course one of the most famous spaceships of all time is going to be in my movie.'

Millennium Falcon Photos From 'Star Wars 7' Set Leak: Could It Be?

Jj Abrams Carrie Fisher Lupita Nyong'o Harrison Ford Mark Hamill Gwendoline Christie Peter Mayhew Domhnall Gleeson Adam Driver

We have been given our first look at the brand new Millennium Falcon that is being built for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, thanks to an alleged photo leak TMZ has published. The new shots, which are purported to feature full-size space vehicles from the sci-fi franchise, have strongly hinted that Han Solo's iconic spaceship and others will be included in Jj Abrams upcoming reboot.

If the photos are real, they are evidence that Abrams' team has decided to create full-size versions of the vehicles that George Lucas' movies only made in miniature model sizes. It will also indicate that Episode VII will use minimal CGI effects in favour of high spec props and spacecraft models. Eagle-eyed observers also spotted what looks like an X-Wing starfighter amongst the other unknown constructions.

The photos were evidently taken in some kind of cavernous hangar which fans are speculating could be England's Pinewood Studios, where much of the movie's filming will take place. Vast sets are shown being built out of wood and covered with ladders and scaffolding as Abrams' vision slowly takes form.

It may come as a bit of a surprise to hear that Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back has been voted Empire Magazine's greatest movie of all time. The new poll, which included 250,000 film fans, saw the second Star Wars movie, or the fifth, depending on whether you take chronology or date into account, beat The Godfather, The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction. Traditionally, all three films tend to rank higher than The Empire Strikes Back, in movie polls taken by film fans.
