Mark Hamill narrowly escaped serious injury during the filming of the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, when when he slipped on dangerous rocks during filming in Ireland last year. According to The Times, Hamill would have been a ‘goner’ if it wasn't for a quick thinking guide who made the save.

Hamill was filming on the hazardous Irish island Skellig Michael when he slipped but was luckily saved by an Irish Office of Public Works guide, according to the newspaper. The island is an Unesco World Heritage site, which visitors must climb over 600 steps to reach.

In the Lucasfilm production notes, producers had raised concerns over the actor, writing, "Our lead actor is in his Sixties and less agile than most".  An eyewitness to Hamill’s slip also told The Times that the 63 year old actor would have been "a goner” had the guide not made the save.

Hamill is not the only Star Wars actor to suffer an accident on the set of the highly anticipated sci-fi film. Production had to be halted for eight weeks last June after Harrison Ford broke his leg when he suffered an accident while filming in the Millennium Falcon spaceship.

Ford reportedly had to be pulled him out from underneath the iconic prop and was then stretchered off set and flown to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. The 73 year old then underwent surgery where his ankle was fixed with metal plates.
