"Older & Wiser" Mark Wahlberg Wants To Set Good Example To Young Actors

Mark Wahlberg has four children and stars as a father in Transformers: Age of Extinction and he certainly seems to be channelling his paternal role whilst on set. In a recent interview with the Mirror, Wahlberg described how he wants to set a "good example" for the rest of the cast and crew whilst filming.

The 43-year-old actor explained that now he is "getting older" he wants to be able to deal with the importance of image in Hollywood in a different way. Wahlberg said it was important to portray a father figure and "embrace" his age as "if Hollywood has its way," the female role in Transformers would be altered from his daughter to a romantic interest.

Wahlberg also touched on the dangers of celebrity and Hollywood's corrupting influence. He said "You also have kids in a business that is tempting and has tainted many a young man and woman." However, Wahlberg is determined to be a protective influence on set and stated that his own experience was one of the reasons why he wants to present himself as a "good example". He said "having had that experience myself and now being older and wiser, you want to set a good example and set the tone for everybody else in the movie."

Yet, off-screen, Wahlberg is also attempting to be a good role model. He was recently set up, along with his two brothers, a diner in Boston which has become the subject of a reality series, Wahlburgers. As he owns a large stake in the restaurant, Wahlberg is hoping it becomes a legitimate business but he also hopes the series will prove how people can turn their lives around. Infamously, Wahlberg had a past riddled with run-ins with the law. He said "I am trying to show people that anything is possible through hard work and more importantly, how a family is."
