Maroon 5: Maroon 5 are a Grammy Award-winning American pop rock band. Their debut album Songs About Jane, released in June 2002, received major chart success, going gold, platinum, and triple platinum in many countries around the world.
After a hiatus from the music scene, Maroon 5 released their second studio album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long in May 2007, five years after Songs About Jane.
The second album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of nearly half a million. The album has since gone on to become platinum with 1.8 million albums sold in the United States alone and over 3.5 million worldwide.
History: Kara's Flowers and formation (1995-2001)
Three members of Maroon 5 have known each other since attending junior high school together in Los Angeles. While at school, Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael joined up with Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick to form Kara's Flowers, a garage/grunge band.
When James Valentine joined Kara's Flowers in 2001, the band adopted the name Maroon 5 and went onto do showcase gigs in New York City and Los Angeles.
Octone Records, a new independent record label based in New York, were interested in the band and went onto sign the group.
Songs About Jane (2001-2003)
Maroon 5's debut album, Songs About Jane peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200 in August 2004, 26 months after its release. This was the longest period between an album's release and its initial Top 10 appearance since SoundScan results were included in the Billboard 200 in 1991.
The album would also eventually climb to #1 in the UK and #2 in Australia.
The second single, "This Love" reached #5 in the U.S., #3 in the UK, and #8 in Australia.
The third single, "She Will Be Loved" reached the Top 5 in both the U.S. and the UK, and went to #1 in Australia.
The fourth single, "Sunday Morning" reached the Top 40 in the U.S., UK, and Australia.
It Won't Be Soon Before Long (2006-present)
In May 2007, Maroon 5's second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, was released worldwide by A&M/Octone Records.
With more than 50,000 digital pre-sales, the album became the number 1 album on iTunes. After its release, the album broke iTunes sales records its week of release, selling over 101,000 albums.
The first single, "Makes Me Wonder" was released on March 27th, 2007 and debuted at number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100.
This was the lowest debuting single of the group's five chart entries, although it would climb from 64 to #1, the biggest jump in Billboard history.
Trivia: In 2005, the band performed at a tribute to filmmaker George Lucas. Lucas himself selected Maroon 5 for the event, as they were his children's favourite band at the time.
For their second album It won't be soon, before - Adam Levine (Vocals) lists iconic 80s artists such as Shabba Ranks and Prince as influences.
Original member Ryan Dusick left the band in September 2006, due to injuries sustained by the constant touring and was replaced by Matt Flynn.
The song comes ahead of the band's American tour.
This week Maroon 5 dropped their second single of the year with 'What Lovers Do' featuring alt R&B singer SZA. It follows their collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, and comes ahead of their September tour dates which take them right across North and South America.

The song follows previous two singles 'Cold' featuring Future, which was released back in February, and 'Don't Wanna Know' featuring Kendrick Lamar which came out last October. All are set to appear on the band's forthcoming sixth studio album - the details of which are yet to be announced. The new record is the follow-up to 2014's number one 'V', which featured the hit song 'Sugar'.

The lead up to Christmas inevitably sees the release of 'best of' and 'greatest hits' compilations - the latter in the case of Californian sextet Maroon 5. In the decade-plus years that they've achieved commercial success, there have been five albums to draw on for this retrospective release, much of which you would expect to hear on their tours of South and North America next year.

The veteran singer-songwriter had been waiting nearly 50 years for a US Number One album.
Throughout his lengthy and prestigious career, singer-songwriter James Taylor has achieved many great things, but a US Number One album has always eluded him: until today! Taylor’s 47 year wait for a Billboard chart topping LP came to an end this week as it was announced that his new effort Before This World had outsold all rivals.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, Taylor’s 17th studio album sold 97,000 copies in its first week of release to debut atop the Billboard 200, with 96,000 of those coming through actual album sales (as opposed to streaming or track equivalents). His very first album, a self-titled effort, was released in December 1968 but only achieved a chart peak of Number 62 in the US.

'How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful' is Number 1 in the UK and the States at the same time, only the ninth album this decade to do so.
Florence Welch may be recovering from a broken foot, but she’s got even more good news to make her feel better, as the third Florence + The Machine album has entered the American charts at Number One, her first record to reach the summit in the States.
How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful sold 137,000 copies in its first week on sale to debut at the top spot in the Billboard 200 albums chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan. As a result, Florence is one of the few artists who have managed to top the American and British albums charts at the same time – the ninth act to do so in the 2010s and the first since Ed Sheeran’s X last year.

Finally, Maroon 5 have crossed that frontier.
Adam Levine has been verging on music video nudity for quite a while, so the newly released clip for This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like a Motherf***er shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone. The video dropped on Saturday night.
Here’s the basic outline – the video shows a candid look at life on tour, through the eyes of the Maroon 5 vocalist. It gives viewers a full look at the band experience from the dressing room to backstage to the edge of the catwalk at a massive arena.
The man who threw sugar at the Maroon 5 singer this week was sentenced with three years of probation and counselling sessions.
Navid Farsi, the man who struck Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine in the face with a bag of sugar this week, has been sentenced to three years of probation after pleading no contest to one charge of battery.
The singer was arriving at a studio near Hollywood Boulevard to appear ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ on Wednesday (May 6th), and was greeting fans when Farsi lobbed a bag of confectioner’s sugar at him, hitting him in the face and bursting, leaving Levine covered in white powder. He was immediately wrestled to the ground and detained until the police showed up to arrest him.

The movie is a runaway success in the box offices domestically and internationally, and now it can add the Billboard charts as another conquest.
In addition its reign at the top of the American box offices, Furious 7 has doubled its domination after its soundtrack album roared to Number One in the Billboard 200. The multi-artist compilation climbed a place to the top spot in the week ending April 12th, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The Furious 7 soundtrack has benefitted from the massive single ‘See You Again’ by Wiz Khalifa, which is also sitting atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week. The track, a tribute to the movie’s late star Paul Walker, plays over the movie’s end credits.
The song sold 464,000 individual downloads last week, and that translates into 58,000 track equivalent album sales for the soundtrack, over 50% of its 111,000 sales total.

'To Pimp A Butterfly' matches its rave reviews with another week of six figure sales, meaning a second week at the top of the Billboard charts.
In a quiet week on the US Billboard 200, Kendrick Lamar’s new album To Pimp A Butterfly spends a second week in the Number One spot. The rapper’s third album sold more than double the amount of its nearest rival, the soundtrack to TV drama ‘Empire’, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Shifting 123,000 copies in its second week on sale, including track and streaming equivalent sales figures as well as physical copies, To Pimp A Butterfly is the first album to spend its opening fortnight at the top of the chart since Taylor Swift’s behemoth 1989 at the end of last year.
