Dark Sky Paradise moved 173,000 units in its first week on sale, a combination of traditional physical sales and track and streaming equivalents. Both of his previous albums, 2011’s Finally Famous and 2013’s Hall of Fame, both entered at Number 3.

Imagine Dragons Enter Billboard Chart At The Top

Imagine Dragons Drake Taylor Swift Ed Sheeran Sam Smith Maroon 5 Meghan Trainor Nicki Minaj Hozier

Las Vegas rockers Imagine Dragons have landed straight in at the top spot on the Billboard 200 with their second album Smoke + Mirrors. The group, responsible for the enormous 2012 hit ‘Radioactive’, sold 195,000 units of their sophomore effort in the first week, compiled from physical, track and streaming equivalent sales according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The record is also currenly top of the charts in Britain, and is only new entry inside the Top Ten this week. Despite the impressive figures, Smoke + Mirrors has got a way to go before it tops the sales for their first album Night Visions, which to date has sold 2.5 million copies and has only left the Billboard 100 for two of its 129 weeks on sale. ‘Radioactive’, by itself, has sold in excess of nine million copies in the U.S. But that album only made as high as Number 2 during its run.

Maroon 5 Add A Little Sugar With Some Wedding Crashing

Maroon 5

Is it every groom's dream to watch his new wife get extraordinarily hot under the collar over another man on their wedding day? Perhaps not, but that's not something that concerned Maroon 5 and front man Adam Levine when they filmed the video for their new song, Sugar.

Here She Is, Your SNL Host, Sarah Silverman

Sarah Silverman Maroon 5

Sarah Silverman, comedienne extraordinaire and author of The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee, hosted SNL last night and, in her words, it made “all the sense in the world”. We’ll have to agree on that one. Silverman does a lot of standup and recently got her own HBO special, so her comedic flow is kind of perfect for SNL.

Sarah Silverman
Sarah Silverman was pretty much the perfect voice to bring into the SNL mix.

Silverman took the stage in a mismatched suit and tie and started with a Yom Kipur joke, before going for some audience participation and jumping in a studio guest’s lap for a lengthy heart-to-heart. We’re not picking favorites or anything, but that kind of raised the bar for every SNL host from thereafter.

Maroon 5 Under Fire For Dangerous, Blood Soaked ‘Animals’ Video

Maroon 5 Behati Prinsloo

Maroon 5 have been criticised by sexual assault support groups for their new video ‘Animals’, which depicts singer Adam Levine stalking model Behati Prinsloo. The predatory video and song has also come under fire from fans of the band who have voiced their disgust on social media.

Last month Maroon 5 frontman and reformed playboy Adam Levine told Access Hollywood he had a “crazy idea" for the band’s latest video that was "really dark and weird and cool”. So imagine the collective befuddlement when the video for ‘Animals’ premiered. Yes it’s definitely ‘really weird’ and it ticks the really dark box too, plus if someone had pitched it to us we would have called it a ‘crazy idea’, but the singer really needs to be informed that this video is not at all cool.

The Five Best Songs From Maroon 5's 'V'

Maroon 5 Adam Levine

Whether on the television or in your speakerbox, Adam Levine is pretty much everywhere. He’s been a coach on the singing competition show The Voice for years, and his band Maroon 5 only seems to be getting bigger - but with their new album, V, does it give them the firepower needed in order to create another ‘Moves Like Jagger’?

Adam Levine LiveMaroon 5 released their new album, V, on September 2

‘Jagger,’ released in 2011, is far and away Maroon 5’s biggest hit to date, and it’s clear that the group has been trying to find the magic to make an equally successful part two ever since. For the most part, they’ve gotten close, but it just hasn’t been enough. ‘Jagger’ reached number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 and the Mainstream Top 40, with sales that have accumulated over six million units. Who wouldn’t want to re-create those numbers?! Maroon 5’s 2012 record, Overexposed, took the band into a brand new pop-heavy realm that relied strictly on those ‘Jagger’ like tunes, but they always fell short. ‘Payphone’ was the album’s lead single and peaked at number two, while ‘One More Night’ only lasted a little while at number one.

Maroon 5 - V Album Review

There are no prizes for guessing how many albums Maroon 5 are up to, but this release follows 2012's 'Overexposed'; an album that saw a renaissance in the band's career after some assistance from Christina Aguilera and a certain Rolling Stone. The quintet will support this release with an extensive North American tour in the new year, before crossing the Atlantic for dates that include a trio of shows in the UK.

Maroon 5 - V Album Review

It's easy to forget that when Maroon 5 first came to prominence around a decade ago they were originally pushed in the alternative rock scene, not the type of slick act who unleashed the ubiquitous 'Moves Like Jagger'. When they followed it up with the nearly-as-catchy 'Payphone', it seemed like they had truly found their niche, which is what makes 'V' a baffling listen. In isolation, the majority of tracks are ok, but they fail to make a lasting impression - the absence of even one infectious, attention-grabbing hook is astounding. Lead single 'Maps' is a case in point, it features a dance floor anthem chorus that will invariably get a crowd moving, but you'd be hard pressed to find the person who asked the club DJ to play it. This applies to the majority of tracks - take your pick from 'Animals', 'Sugar' and 'In Your Pocket' for examples - that gives the record difficulty in breaking beyond being full of 'filler' material.

The rare occasions where 'V' does raise its game - and it must be said in marginal measure - is when the band slows things down. Remembering that they are capable of the excellent 'She Will Be Loved' actually places context that 'Unkiss Me' and bonus track 'Lost Stars' aren't brilliant, but they still stand out here. The former is an aching break up ballad that remains on the right side of the line to being overblown and will no doubt have live audiences swaying emotionally, while the latter is a pleasant acoustic platform that features a surprisingly wistful vocal turn from Adam Levine.  Ultimately, this is a disappointing release (though certainly not dreadful) and if the previous album was the band's return to the spotlight, this could see that bulb needing to be replaced.

The line-up for MTV's VMAs has been announced, and now it's time to take bets as to whether this year will serve as any less controversial than last year, following the infamous 'Miley-gate' incident. The performing artists include Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande Usher, 5 Seconds of Summer, Maroon 5, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith.

Last year's MTV Video Music Awards sparked off some controversy due to Miley Cyrus' 'seductive' twerking on the then married Robin Thicke while wearing only her underwear and making provocative gestures with a giant foam finger. Then again, controversy is big money these days so if anything, the draw of this year's VMAs is seeing if they will top last year's antics.

Can Amazon Prime Music Be A Spotify Killer?

Fall Out Boy Drake Maroon 5

Amazon unveiled their new streaming service last week, much to the surprise of music fans everywhere. Given the name Amazon Prime Music, it’s a service that boasts “unlimited, ad-free streaming” featuring a catalog with well over a million songs.

Amazon

However, in a world ruled by the likes of Spotify and Pandora, is there really enough room for one more streaming service? If there is, it needs to do something that none of the competition is doing, and Amazon Prime Music does nothing of the sort. In fact, what was maybe supposed to scare the competition probably didn’t even make them bat an eye, because Amazon Prime Music doesn’t offer anything that you can’t find in something like Spotify -- but is it trying to take them down in the first place?

Adam Levine's 222 Records Joins Forces With Interscope: Is There A Future For Levine Solo?

Adam Levine Maroon 5

Ever since the release of Maroon 5's 2012 smash hit, Overexposed, the most common criticism given was that it sounds like it might as well be a solo album for frontman Adam Levine. Though pop heavy and unapologetically radio friendly, it didn't stray too far away from what Maroon 5 sounded like their entire career. But as time went on, so did rumors of Levine deciding to go solo and leaving Maroon 5 in the dust. Obviously, with the band's new album, V, scheduled for release on September 2, Levine probably isn't going to go solo anytime soon -- but is it completely out of the question?

Adam Levine Wango TangoAdam Levine will have three solo songs on the soundtrack to Begin Again

With Maroon 5's new single, 'Maps,' expected to drop any day now, the cries of it possibly sounding like Adam-solo have surfaced once again. But he's never been solo, so how does anyone know what that sounds like in the first place? While we'll have to wait just a little longer to see what the new single is all about, what did come to light was news that Levine's record label, 222 Records, would be partnering with Interscope Records. 222 was founded by Levine in 2012 and includes a roster with the likes of Rozzi Crane, Matthew Morrison, and Tony Lucca. Crane, who is best known for his feature on Maroon 5's Hunger Games track, 'Come Away to the Water,' will be the first new artist to release an album through the partnership. However, before then, the soundtrack to Levine's new movie, Begin Again, will be released through the label on July 1.

Metallica To Cover 'Wonderwall' At Glastonbury, But What Are The Best Oasis Covers?

Metallica Jay Z Oasis Maroon 5 Jake Bugg Robbie Williams Keane Weezer

In a similar fashion to the announcement of Jay Z in 2008, metal titans Metallica’s headline slot at the iconic Glastonbury Festival has been met with a wave of criticism and derision from commentators who have deemed the Metallica’s headline position as both a lazy, predictable booking and one that is incompatible with Glastonbury’s demographic. However, whereas criticism towards Jay Z in the vein of what was unleashed by the Gallagher brothers was a scathing attack on hip hop as a genre, laced with a degree of barely concealed racism, Metallica’s backlash largely stems from elsewhere.

Firstly, this is a band that hasn’t produced an album of any merit for well over a decade and what’s more, considering they were announced long after tickets had sold out, how many of Glastonbury’s middle class bohemians will actually want to watch the band? Metallica have themselves responded to the criticism by announcing they may open their set with a cover of “Wonderwall”, copying Jay Z’s act of protest back in 2008. However, it does appear that Jay Z’s version carried a greater amount of symbolism, given that it was the Gallagher brothers who were the most vocal opponents of his appearance.

Adam Levine And Behati Prinsloo Plan TWO WEDDINGS In Los Angeles And Namibia

Adam Levine Behati Prinsloo Maroon 5

Not content with marrying a supermodel once, Adam Levine is planning two weddings with fiance Behati Prinsloo, in Los Angeles and her native Namibia.

The Maroon 5 singer and judge on The Voice got engaged to the model in July and the couple have apparently been mulling over where to hold the nuptials.

Of course, Levine probably wants the bash in Los Angeles - where they live - though Behati is keen to return to her native Namibia because it would mean a lot to her parents in Africa. Being the intelligent guy he is, the pop singer used every single one of his brain cells to suggest having...you guessed it pop fans...two ceremonies!

Maroon 5 Forced To Reschedule U.K. And Ireland Tour Dates

Maroon 5 Adam Levine

Maroon 5 have been forced to pull out of their scheduled summer tour dates in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with the band citing "unforseen scheduling conflicts" as the reason behind the sudden change. The band posted the news on their official website, assuring fans that refunds would be made available and that any tickets already bought will be valid for the rescheduled dates.

The 'Moves Like Jagger' hit-makers were due to perform six dates over the course of June, including two shows at London's O2 Arena and one in Ireland at the Dublin O2 Arena. All six dates have now been moved to January 2014, with the band telling fans that should they prefer a refund they need to return their tickets no later than June 30. 55th Grammys Preview: 'Music's Biggest Night' Wont Fail To Impress

Grammy Awards Beyonce Knowles Prince Taylor Swift Maroon 5 Kelly Clarkson Florence and the Machine Frank Ocean Alicia Keys Elton John Ed Sheeran Bruno Mars Sting Jennifer Lopez Rihanna Justin Timberlake Justin Bieber Mumford And Sons Fun Black Keys Jack White

Annually, the Grammys is one of the biggest events for music across America and in Europe. In fact, it has dubbed itself 'music's biggest night'. Celebrating the best in pop, hiphop, soul, R&B and much of what comes in between, it never fails to be a veritable who's who from the Spotify playlists of the masses. And this year will be no different. Not only are the nominees ones to look out for, absences are worthy of note, as are this year's presenters and some very special performances.

As Yahoo report, this year's presenters include Grammy royalty, Prince, Beyonce, and Jennifer Lopez, all of whom have been nominated or won Grammys before.

In terms of performances to look forward to, this year we have some unusual and largely unexpected pair ups. Elton John and Ed Sheeran will take to the stage together. An unusual pairing, they're both Brits with unusual song writing talent. While John is a true showman and is well known for his intereSting outfits and outrageous glasses, Sheeran is distinctly more low key. We're not sure how this is going to work, but we're guessing it'll be great. Bruno Mars, Sting and Rihanna will all also perform together, as will Alicia Keys and Maroon 5, and Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert.

Prince Slams Madonna, Maroon 5 Too; He's Back!

Prince Madonna Maroon 5

Prince didn't waste any time in reigniting old feuds. Just days after releasing new material; the single 'Screwdriver', with an all-female trio, the legendary pop icon is speaking about Madonna, again.

When talking about his old relationship with Warner Brothers, Prince took the opportunity to bring Madge into it. "It was also about Madonna," he says to Billboard. "She was getting paid, but at the time we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights. It wasn't about her. This was about business." Following their frankly strange relationship, way back in 1985, and their collaboration on 1988's 'Love Song', the pair have had often aired their dirty laundry in public. "[He] was a little troll," Madge said of Prince said during a 1994 interview, "He was just sipping tea, very daintily. I have this theory about people who don't eat. They annoy me."

And on Maroon 5, who perhaps don't have the same star status as either him or Madonna, Prince has plenty to say.  They included a cover of his song 'Kiss' on their latest album. "I do pay performance royalties on others' songs I perform live, but I'm not recording these songs and putting them up for sale," he says. "Why do we need to hear another cover of a song that someone else did? Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what's already there."

Adele Named Billboard's Top Artist Of 2012

Adele One Direction Drake Maroon 5 Carly Rae Jepsen Fun Gotye

Adele has topped off yet another remarkable year by being named Billboard's top artis of 2012, whilst her second album, the hit 21, was named top album of the year in the music magazine's annual review.

The Brit singer, who also won six Grammys in February this year, was also crowned female artist of the year by the magazine too, with Canadian R&B artist Drake taking the male equivalent home. Meanwhile, fellow Brits and former X Factor contestants One Direction rounded off their phenomenally successful year by being named top new artist, but were beaten to the post of top group by Maroon 5.

In the singles department, the magazine deemed that Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used to Know,' Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' and Fun's 'We Are Young' as the top three tracks in that order. Each of the lists are based on chart performance, as well as streaming and social data.
