This week in news: celebrities are filming themselves getting buckets of ice poured over their heads. This is what millions of years of evolution has led to. Ok, so the latest celebrity trend, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is pretty simple. Whenever someone gets challenged, they’re supposed to get a helpful friend to pour ice water over then and donate to the ALS Association, which works to support sufferers of Amyotropic Lateral Schlerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Not even Oprah is above the ridiculous Ice Bucket Challenge.

So it might seem a bit... out there, but thanks to the Ice Bucket Challenge, ALSA has received $15.6 million in donations so far.

Meanwhile, the icy phenomenon is spreading like wildfire. Celebrities, who have taken the challenge thus far include Martha Stewart, TFIOS star Ansel Elgort, Tom Hiddleston, Emma Stone, Mark Freaking Zuckerberg, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg (along with a bunch of Facebook staffers), Oprah Winfrey, Taylor Swift – there are just too many to name, but a quick Google search yields hundreds of results and hours of entertainment – if you find potential hypothermia entertaining, that is.

Health risks aside, the videos are pretty hilarious and obviously very, very effective. So kudos to Hollywood for backing up a good cause. Just a suggestion though - maybe the next campaign could involve a little less ice and fewer health risks? Longest nap challenge, anyone?
