Sabotage! A baked Alaska sabotage! Not the cries of this writer, but the masses on Twitter during Wednesday night's instalment of the 'Great British Bake-Off'. Iain - the Northern Irish one with the massive orange beard - was kicked off the show after failing to produce anything but an aluminium wheelie bin in the showstopper challenge. But was it really his fault?

The construction engineer was falling behind on the task anyway after failing to make a half decent sponge for his base, but things got worse when fellow contestant Diana Beard - the older woman who wears Nike Air Max trainers - apparently removed his pudding from the freezer. After finding his now defrosted Alaska settled on the side, Iain screeched "No! why would you take someone's ice cream OUT of the freezer?!" below sloping off towards that massive mansion outside the bake off marquee. On his return, Iain realised that his pudding would not suffice and subsequently slid it off the tray and into the bin - left only to face the ire of Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.

Presuming the baked Alaska had been out of the freezer for hours - despite the fact that Iain had only just cut his sponge with 15 minutes to go - Twitter was indignant.

"How can you take somebody's ice cream out of the freezer? Not only should she be eliminated for that, she should also be arrested" wrote Daz Gale.

Children's writer Alex. T Smith said: "Diana should have publicly apologised and not just stood there polishing her bloody WI badge and whistling."

And then Bake-Off presenter Sue Perkins stepped in.

"Iain's Alaska was out of the freezer for 40 secs" she wrote. "That's it. No sabotage. 40 secs of normal temp would NOT be enough to reduce it to liquid."

Beard herself felt the need to go on radio to say "it didn't happen like that" saying Iain's Alaska "was not out of the freezer for more than 40 seconds".

Iain himself said: "Guys no hard feelings now. Diana is a top lady and all us tent bakers are great pals. Can't wait to tune into the rest of the series."
