The upcoming eighth season of actress Mary-Louise Parker's hit TV comedy Weeds will be its last.
The Emmy Award-winning show, about a struggling single mum who deals drugs to make ends meet, became a hit for U.S. network Showtime when it first aired in 2005, but Weeds will go up in smoke after one more season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Showtime entertainment president David Nevins confirms, "It had a groundbreaking run; entering its eighth season, it's one of the longest-running comedies in the history of cable. We all felt that it was the right time and right way to end it. It was very important to us that we bring the story of Nancy Botwin and her family to a satisfying conclusion for the devoted fans that have spent years supporting this series. Jenji (Kohan, creator) has managed to surprise us every step of the way and I am confident in her plan for a spectacular series end."
Season eight is due to air in America this summer (12).
