After 12 years Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel may have finally buried the hatchet, thanks to some couples therapy. The Martian star took part in the sketch during ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on Monday, after he first tired to pass himself off as scheduled guest Dr. Phil.

Wearing a bald cap and fake moustache Damon appeared after Kimmel announced Dr Phil. But despite his best attempt at a Texan accent, Kimmel recognised that it wasn’t the TV psychologist and instead it was Damon once again trying to get on the show.

Damon then said that Kimmel had promised he’d be allowed on the show during the pairs' couples therapy session. Kimmel then insisted he had only said he’d try to fit the actor in and offered to play a video of their latest therapy session.

The Kimmel/Damon feud has been a running joke on the late night talk show for 12 years now, with the actor frequently being bumped from the show. Then in 2009, Damon appeared in a video with Kimmel’s then girlfriend Sarah Silverman, titled ‘I'm Fucking Matt Damon’.

During the therapy session Damon revealed that he’s been living in a dressing room on the show’s set for 12 years just waiting for his chance to appear on the show. "I try to get him on the show. I mean, we have a one-hour show every night, OK?" Kimmel said.

"We have other guests, which he doesn't care about, obviously. I have a monologue to do. We have a band. Sometimes we have important commercials to run...He thinks the world revolves around him. He thinks he's the only celebrity in California.”

However by then end of the session it appeared the two had made a breakthrough, with Kimmel admitting that he liked some of Damon’s friends (particularly Ben Affleck) and the actor saying he was a big fan of the talk show.

The two then engaged in a particularly emotional hug (which managed to knock over a lamp) before leaving the session together. However once the video was over Damon (still dressed as Dr Phil) was escorted from the studio by security, presumably back to his live -in dressing room.
