'Dallas Buyers Club' is at the center of a major ruling in movie piracy.
A landmark court ruling could have lasting implications in the on-going fight against illegal downloading and file sharing. The federal court justice Nye Perram handed down the verdict in Australia in favour of film studio Dallas Buyers Club LLC, who own the rights to the Oscar winning movie starring Matthew Mcconaughey.

The studio had requested that iiNet (and several other Australian ISPs) divulge the identity of customers whose IP addresses were found to have shared the movie illegally. The company had identified a total of 4726 IP addresses that engaged in illegal activity and the ruling means that the company will now be given the contact details of the offenders and will be able to pursue them for compensation.

After a good year for movies and television in 2014, the American Film Institute has honoured the very best that the year had to offer.
For the past fifteen years, the American Film Institute has honoured ten films and ten television shows that truly show off what the year had to offer. 2014 had a particularly good year for films, however, so for the first time, the AFI Awards actually awarded eleven motion pictures with the honouree status. A whole host of celebrities gathered in celebration.

After the slow fall season, the holidays are kicking off with two movies topping $50 million.
So guess who won this weekend’s box office – no, it’s not who you think. Despite early estimates, Disney’s animated, futuristic adventure has beaten Interstellar and its all-star cast. Domestically, both films performed well, topping the $50 million mark. The critically praised Big Hero 6, which takes place in a future world, made a stellar (get it?) $56 million in the US, while Interstellar fell back with just over $50 million.
Everyone's a winner in this weekend's box office race.
It was an overall success for the Anne Hathaway starrer, however, as the movie topped the global box office with $79,2 million over its debut weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.

Brainy blockbuster maestro Christopher Nolan heads into deep space with this epic adventure, which is packed with thoughtful ideas and big emotions even if the plot wobbles badly in the middle. But although it ultimately feels somewhat forced, the film is still a mesmerising exploration of parenthood and survival, bending time and gravity in ways that keep our brains spinning. And the seamless visual effects combine with some wrenching performances to make it unmissable.
It opens in a future America where a desperation for food has overtaken the need for technology and innovation. Which is a problem for Nasa pilot Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), who is now working a massive corn farm that he runs with his father (John Lithgow). Then Cooper and his daughter Murph (Mackenzie Foy) discover a gravitational anomaly that leads them to a secret base run by father and daughter scientists Brand and Amelia (Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway), who are looking for a new home planet for humanity since Earth is dying. So Cooper joins up and heads through a wormhole with Amelia and crew (Wes Bentley and David Gyasi). Meanwhile, Murph (who grows up to be Jessica Chastain) gets involved in the project back on earth, wondering if her dad will ever return home as he promised.
The first act of the story is a beautiful depiction of yearning for discovery, that innate curiosity that drives people to do crazy things in the hopes of pushing the humanity forward (or in this case, saving it). Nolan directs this section beautifully, with sharp editing propelling the story out into space with real energy and passion. But once they begin visiting other planets, there are some extended episodes that feel oddly contrived, including an encounter that leads to unexplained violence, explosions and melodrama. These kinds of things undermine the characters' motivations to the point where the audience just has to take Nolan's word for it and ride it out, even as the underlying ideas begin to lose their weightiness.

'Interstellar' is one of the most anticipated movies of the year - but is it going to be as good as we assumed?
Depending on which critic you generally listen to for your movie recommendations, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is either a genuine masterpiece, full of verve, energy and jaw-dropping visuals, or it's a turgid, shallow sci-fi with cheap, hokey sentimentalism.

The big-budget movie stars Matthew McConaughey as a widowed engineer who travels into space to embark on a voyage through a black hole. They're the places in space where gravity pulls so much that light can't get out. They're also invisible - despite being the size of 1 million suns together.

Jim Carrey's first guest host spot on 'SNL' since 2011 was a real winner.
Jim Carrey's third appearance on 'Saturday Night Live' at the weekend (October 25th 2014) proved to be another eye-wateringly hilarious episode - though we know we'll be stuck with an image of the actor in a nude unitard and blonde wig forever more.
Jim Carrey does 'Chandelier' rather well
Yes, Saturday's 'SNL' highlight was the Halloween themed office party sketch, which saw the 'Dumb and Dumber' star re-enact the video for Sia's Platinum hit 'Chandelier', alongside identically dressed cast member Kate Mckinnon as they attempted to battle it out for the right to wear the costume. The pair performed the energetic dance routine of 'Dance Moms' star Maddie Ziegler who starred in the video, and while it has to be said that it really is a remarkable rendition, Jim Carrey's customary absurd facial expressions made it a truly unmissable show - that and musical guest Iggy Azalea's unexpected cameo.

'Interstellar' is outpacing 'Inception' in pre-sales and should take over $50 million on debut.
We're still three weeks away from the release of Christopher Nolan's shadowy movie Interstellar, but speculation is already hotting up regarding the potential of this big-budget sci-fi epic. The plot remains a mystery - other than the fact that it will include ecological cataclysms and wormholes - and it's that intrigue that is driving the growing publicity campaign.
Matthew Mcconaughey will be a big draw, though Christopher Nolan is becoming a brand in himself
As Variety notes, Nolan has essentially become a brand in himself - a tag that could previously only be attributed to Spielberg and Scorsese - and Interstellar is tracking to make more than $50 million as word-of-mouth increases. Last year, Gravity opened to $55.8 million and Legendary Pictures have a similar number in sight.

The 44 year-old actor recently opened up about dominating the rom-com genre for many years before his acting was critically acclaimed.
Before Matthew McConaughey won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in 'Dallas Buyers Club,' and being unanimously praised for his work in HBO's 'True Detective,' the 44 year-old actor was a household name in the genre of romantic comedy.
McConaughey is proud of his romantic comedy movies
McConaughey's roles in such films as 'The Wedding Planner' (2000), 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' (2003) and 'Failure To Launch' (2006), may have not being the most complicated characters to portray, but he is adamant they were all still challenging.
