The writer and creator of dark TV drama 'True Detective' was accused earlier this week of plagirising from 'The Conspiracy Against the Human Race', a book by Thomas Ligotti. Observant fans noticed stark similarities between the book and the protagonist of the series, Rust Cohle (played by Matthew McConaughey). Now Nic Pizzolatto has hit back against the critics, claiming that nothing about 'True Detective' was stolen.

Although it ended last September, 'Breaking Bad' is continuing to reign supreme when it comes to awards. The drama scooped the top prize at Sunday night’s Television Critics Association Awards, Program of the Year. 

However, star Bryan Cranston missed out on one more award for his portrayal of meth cook and criminal mastermind Walter White; the prize for Individual Achievement in Drama went to  for his standout performance in the critically-acclaimed HBO series ‘True Detective’. The series also scooped the prize for Best Mini-Series but lost out on the award for Best New Program of the Year, which instead went to Netflix exclusive prison dramedy ‘Orange is the New Black’.

After the Breaking Bad finale last year, it looks like this awards season is strictly dedicated to honoring the uber popular show. This week it was the TCA awards, where the story of a high school Chem teacher turned drug lord won the Association’s second annual Program of the Year award. Bryan Cranston accepted the award on behalf of the show, adding a little lighthearted note of his own.

Critics' Choice Awards: Last night's Critics' Choice Awards saw the year's best and brightest in television honoured for outstanding performances and shows. Dark humoured crime series Fargo and prison drama Orange Is The New Black were the clear frontrunners with three awards each. Matthew Mcconaughey predictably took home the Best Actor honour for creepy crime thriller True Detective  whilst Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany repeated her 2013 victory with the corresponding female award. Tracy Morgan Improving: Comedian Tracy Morgan's condition in hospital has been upgraded by doctors to "fair" after he was left fighting for his life in the wake of a tragic crash that killed his friend, mentor and fellow comedian Jimmy McNair on June 7. Morgan, McNair, comedian Ardie Fuqua, Morgan's assistant Jeff Millea, and one other were all involved in the early hours crash that involved a Walmart truck and an allegedly sleep-deprived driver. Female driven drama finally had somewhat of a spotlight of the Critics’ Choice TVAwards, with Orange Is The New Black scoring three whole awards - Best Comedy Series, along with two more awards for Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Kate Mulgrew) and Guest Performer in a Comedy (Uzo Aduba). According to E! News Aduba thanked OITNB showrunner Jenji Kohan "for changing my life."

Meanwhile, in other “actresses winning well-deserved awards” Tatiana Maslany of BBC America’s Orphan Black won for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Matthew Mcconaughey won the corresponding award for his work on True Detective.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is being considered for a part in the upcoming James Bond movie as the villain. The 12 Years A Slave actor is not in official talks with the studios behind the 2015 film - Sony and MGM - but is being seriously considered, according to The Wrap.

The upcoming Bond film, which is slated to be released in 2015, will see Daniel Craig return in the title role. Ralph Fiennes has replaced Dame Judi Dench; M. Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny and Ben Whishaw as Q will also reprise their roles. Sam Mendes, who directed the last film, Skyfall, is also set to direct.

Christopher Nolan has made an appearance at CinemaCon to talk about his hugely anticipated new sci-fi movie Interstellar. The film has been mostly kept under wraps, though we do know that real-life wormhole scientist Kip Thorne is credited as a producer and Matthew Mcconaughey and Michael Caine star.

Nolan told at an audience at the annual event that he's largely concentrating on the movie's tone, calling McConaughey's character an "everyman" - more Ron Woodruff than Rust Cohle - and describing the film as "using interstellar travel to go to other places you couldn't reach beyond normal space travel," reports Variety.

Nobody could deny Matthew Mcconaughey the Oscar for best actor at the 86th Academy Awards. McConaughey took to the stage after finding out that he had won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club. He thanked the usual suspects, ‘all 6,000 members’ of the Academy, his co-stars Jared Leto (who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor) and Jennifer Garner, his director Jean-Marc Vallee and his wife and children.

Nic Pizzolatto put the sincerity and quality of True Detective’s story over multiple seasons of the show, asserting that a strict 8-episode format would be condusive to a strong third act. And judging by the critical claim he’s received – his creation is being talked about in the same breath as The Wire – one is inclined to trust the man who risked everything to write the new HBO anthology series.

“One of the reasons I wanted to do an anthology format is I like stories with endings. I like a good third act. And continuing serial dramas, they tend to have really good beginnings and really long middles and then sort of have to hustle to develop an ending. And I like the idea of telling a self-contained story,” explained Pizzolatto.

Newbie comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine saw off rivals to claim two awards whilst Blue Jasmine's Cate Blanchett took the leading lady award alongside Dallas Buyers Club's  for the men.

Gravity's Alfonso Cuarón stole Best Director from Steve McQueen whilst Breaking Bad and Behind The Candelabra snatched the big TV awards. Matthew McConaughy is on a real hot streak right now, proving that reputations can be shaken almost as quickly as they’re gained in the fickle entity that is Hollywood. Following up his moving performance as the drifting outsider in Mud with an award winning turn in Dallas Buyers Club, the one-time, almost exclusively topless romantic comedy star is heading into The Oscars with a nomination for Best Actor, and he’s a solid chance of taking it home, too.

'The Wire' star impressed critics with his performance as late humanitarian Nelson Mandela, with our own critic Rich Cline describing him as having 'enormous presence. with the right physicality and charisma', but it seems that it just hasn't been enough at this year's Globes. The movie was nominated for a remarkable four awards and did manage to land Best Original Song - Motion Picture; an award which went to U2 for 'Ordinary Love'.

Whilst few were surprised that 12 Years A Slave picked up the evening's crowning award, the Best Motion Picture for Drama, the movie apparently hadn't originally appealed to the Hollywood Foreign Press, despite global critical acclaim. Nevertheless, Steve McQueen's slavery drama took home the award, seeing of some admittedly strong competition from Nebraska, Philomena, Rush and Gravity.

The first trailer for Christopher Nolan's upcoming sci-fi epic Interstellar has hit the web, and it's clear that the Dark Knight director is keeping everyone guessing. The official synopsis is that Interstellar follows the human obsession with overcoming the impossible and cutting down the limitations - but, well, that could mean anything.

Ok, so there's a little more than that. Essentially, a group of curious space-explorers uncover a wormhole in the universe that can allow them to make critical shortcuts through spacetime. They set out on an intergalactic expedition never before undertaken by man, to find whole new worlds.

Earlier this week we were treated to the first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic Interstellar. The trailer really did put the 'teaser' back in to teaser trailer, as it consisted only of archive footage of various historical events, with Matthew Mcconaughey's rich Texan drawl narrating something inspirational over the top of the images. It gave absolutely nothing away in regards to what we can expect to see in the film, but frankly we don't even care.

Not to jump to conclusions, but Nolan might have done it again

Nolan has been working in relative secrecy on the project along with his brother, Jonathan Nolan, with the basis of the film apparently being inspired by a story by physicist Kip S. Thorne. We already know this, as well as the fact that McConaughey will be starring in the film alongside Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine and others, and after seeing the first glimpse of the film this is still all we know in regards to what the Nolan Bros. have in store for us. Their secrecy might make some angry, but frankly the secrecy is just making us more and more excited for the complex film.

12 Years a Slave hasn't even been released in most countries yet but has already been heaped with accolades with more awards bound to blossom from the scores of nominations Steve McQueen's movie has garnered. The Screen Actors Guild awards nominations are out and yet again the slavery drama starring Chiwetel Ejiofor has emerged on top with four major nominations.

The critically lauded movie is up for best ensemble, best male actor (Chewitel Ejiofor), best supporting male actor (Michael Fassbender) and best supporting female actor (Lupita Nyong'o). 12 Years will come up against American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club, Lee Daniels' The Butler and August: Osage County in the coveted Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category, according to the LA Times.

This morning we were treated to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations. It's one of the biggest award ceremonies on the movie calendar and, well, it's kind of a big deal. Forget the Globes - this is the ceremony that best predicts what's going to happen at the Oscars, with Shakespeare in Love, Chicago, Crash, Return of the King, Slumdog Millionaire, No Country For Old Men, Slumdog Millionaire, The King's Speech and Argo all winning the best ensemble cast award before going on to win best picture at the Academy Awards.
