Upon the release of its first season in 2014, 'True Detective' became an instant smash hit, impressing critics and the general public with its gritty and unique style of storytelling. Woody Harrelson and Matthew Mcconaughey were the pair who led the series' first outing as frenemies Marty and Rust, tasked with investigating the murder of a prostitute in what looked like a ritualistic killing.

The story that then played out was unlike anything anybody had seen on television in the past, captivating audiences across the globe and ensuring that millions tuned in throughout the weeks to see exactly what would come of the tale.

Upon its first season conclusion, creator Nic Pizzolatto decided that the show would make its return the year after, with a brand new story and set of characters, making the series an anthology one, much like 'American Horror Story' and 'Fargo'. It was a brave move, but a necessary one to ensure the show didn't instantly become stale.

In its second season, 'True Detective' had a star-studded Hollywood cast, with Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly in leading roles. Comprised of eight episodes, the season aired in 2015, but failed to ever really gain any ground with those watching; especially those who were tasked with writing up reviews. In fact, the show crashed and burned despite keeping steady ratings, and subsequently was shelved for the foreseeable future.

With the third season looking unlikely, fans of the show moved on to other pastures, but now they've been given a sliver of hope as to a batch of new episodes, following an exclusive report from EW.

That report claims that not only have two episodes of 'True Detective' season 3 already been written by creator Pizzolatto, but he is now working with Emmy-winning writer-producer David Milch, who's had a long-standing relationship with TV network HBO.

Not only will this excite those who have always stood by 'True Detective', but it should come as good news to anybody who was a fan of Milch's 'Deadwood'. He will without a doubt bring his own style and tone to any show he's a part of, so to see his world and Pizzolatto's collide without being an 'official' crossover could be small screen magic.
