Meg Ryan will make her directorial debut with 'Into The Beautiful'.

The 'When Harry Met Sally' actress will helm the film - which focuses on a reunion between old friends - from a script written by Anne Meredith although she has no plans to take on a role herself.

Producer Wendy Finerman and Meg are currently casting the project and hope to begin shooting in New York this September.

Wendy said: "I'm often drawn to pictures that make you laugh and cry. I think this is the perfect project for Meg to bring to life. She's poignant and funny and heartfelt."

At the Cannes Film Festival in France last year, Meg revealed she was trying to get financing for her directorial debut and was using the prestigious event to network with producers and get some publicity for her future movie project.

She said: "We're about to begin casting but the film's title is under wraps until we get the full financing."

Meg's last movie was comedy drama 'Serious Moonlight 'and she is due to begin working on 'Lives of the Saints' with Kat Dennings, John Lithgow and Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson this month.
