The Hunger Games: Catching Fire actor Alan Ritchson will lead the film's cast as ninja turtle Raphael, while Pete Ploszek will play Leonardo, Jeremy Howard will play Donatello and Noel Fisher will play Michelangelo. William Fichtner will take on the role of villain Shredder in the movie and the trailer hints that the antagonist's relationship with the pizza-loving crime fighters goes back a long way.

Meanwhile, Mirror, Mirror actor Danny Woodburn will play karate expert sensei Splinter and Whoopi Goldberg will play an editor at Channel 6 News named Bernadette Thompson, a role that was depicted as a white, blonde haired man in the original TMNT animated series. The decision to alter this character in such a way shows that director Jonathan Liebesman isn't afraid to play around with the original franchise, which first appeared in 1984 comic books, and is looking to make his own imprint on the story.

The trailer shows exciting glimpses of the CGI turtles fighting in New York and racing down a ski slope whilst using their hard shells to break through metal. We also see Fichtner eyeing up his achingly cool Shredder outfit and New York being destroyed through violence and mayhem (well it wouldn't be a good action movie if NY didn't get smashed up, right?)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released on the 8th August in the USA and on the 17th October in the UK.
