Mel B has been announced as the new judge who will be joining The X Factor panel for the upcoming 11th series of the talent show. The former Spice Girl, 39, appeared on the show in 2012 as a guest judge and has also been featured on the American and Australian versions of ITV's hit singing contest.

Mel B, AKA Melanie Brown, will be joining returning judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole with the hope that a victor will be chosen from her group of singers. She said she was "so excited" to have been appointed as a judge, in a deal that is reportedly worth £1 million, according to BBC News.

"I've always thought honesty is the best policy when being a judge and that's what I'm going to bring more of this year," Mel said. "Whether it's spotting an incredible singer, giving someone a reality check or debating with Simon over who's got it wrong. Now I can't wait to get started and find some amazing talent."

Stalwart judge and program creator Simon Cowell spoke warmly of the panel's newest addition, saying "I thought she was fantastic as a guest judge a couple of years ago. "She is feisty, opinionated and, I believe, will be a great mentor."

Former Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole will be re-joining the show after a four year break. The pop singer joked that she had put Cowell "through the ringer" to return and said she'd love to be joined by another female judge to even out the stakes on the panel.
