Fact: Veteran entertainer Mel Brooks will present his friend Steve Martin with the American Film Institute's 43rd Life Achievement Award during a gala at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on 4 June (15). Brooks received the same honour in 2013.

Fact: Veteran comedian Mel Brooks left an eccentric mark when he made his hand and foot prints outside the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Monday (08Sep14) - he wore a prosthetic sixth finger on his left hand, leaving the outline of 11 digits in the cement.

Fact: Funnyman Mel Brooks replaced Robert Downey, Jr. as a guest on U.S. late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! at the last minute on Thursday (02May13) when the Iron Man 3 star's interview had to be rescheduled to next week (beg06May13). The actor/director insisted host Kimmel ask him the questions he had prepared for Downey, Jr. Quizzed about the most difficult part of making the Iron Man sequel, Brooks said, "The breathing... They put you in that goddamn tin can and it's hard. It's Ok for half an hour... but then you're fighting to get some (air)." He also joked that "rust" was the worst thing about being in the suit.

Fact: Mel Brooks and Tippi Hedren were among the stars who paid tribute to late actor John Forsythe at the Hollywood Park racetrack on Sunday (23May10). Racing fan Forsythe died on 1 April (10) and his famous friends showed up at the races in Los Angeles for the day's second race meeting, which was dedicated to the former Dynasty star.

Fact: Funnyman Mel Brooks is to be honoured with the 2,406th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The man behind cult films Young Frankenstein, The Producers and Blazing Saddles will unveil his star in front of the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard on 23 April (10).
