Melissa McCarthy is an American actress, comedian, writer and producer. Her most famous roles include Dena on the ABC sitcom Samantha Who?, as Molly Flynn on the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly, and as Megan Prince in the 2011 comedy hit film Bridesmaids.

Personal Life: McCarthy was born in Plainfield, Illinois, and raised on a farm with her family. Her cousin is actress and model Jenny McCarthy. McCarthy's career began with stand-up comedya fter graduating from St Francis Academy in Joliet, Illinois. She was also a member of comedy troupe The Groundlings based in Los Angeles, California. An actor and alumnus of this group, Ben Falcone, later married McCarthy in 2005 and has made a series of cameo appearances in films she has had leading roles in, for instance Identity Thief, Spy and Bridesmaids.
Career: McCarthy's debut TV appearance came on the NBC comedy series Jenny with her cousin Jenny McCarthy. She also started off by doing some minor performances in films such as Go in 1999 and Charlie's Angels, as well as temporary voice acting for some episodes of Kim Possible. 2000 saw her go on to be cast as Sookie St. James on the The WB TV series Gilmore Girls. After the series ended in 2007, she starred in the science fantasy thriller The Nines, followed by appearances in the independent comedies The Captain and Pretty Ugly People. Other Achievements: McCarthy originally studied textiles at University prior to becoming an actor, and so at the age of 44 she became a fashion designer. Her first clothing line, Seven7, is designed for plus-size women with sizes going up to 28. This was done in an attempt to put an end to the social embarrassment felt by shaming plus-size women, according to McCarthy.
