Next year’s Glastonbury Festival has already sold out, with tickets being snapped up within an hour of going on sale.

But it wasn't smooth sailing for fans trying to purchase tickets, as website SeeTickets crashed shortly before the 9am onsale time.

Fatboy Slim refused to eat for four days at the Glastonbury Festival because he didn't want to poop in the toilets.

The DJ - whose real name is Norman Cook - made his 16th consecutive live appearance last month at Michael Eavis' music event, which is held at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England, but he has admitted, despite his experience, he avoided food so he didn't have to do his business in the less than lavish facilities.

He told the Observer Food Monthly magazine: ''Hunger is good on stage. Once we did four days at Glastonbury without any food passing our lips.

Glastonbury Festival goers are facing a major traffic crisis as they make their way down to Worthy Farm in Somerset for the biggest greenfield event in the world. The musical line-up doesn't even kick off until Friday, but already people are flocking in their thousands and bringing a whole load of congestion with them.

Today (June 22nd 2016), Glastonbury 2016 opened and with it came gridlock. People have been queuing for more than 12 hours to get onto the site, with some even abandoning their cars to go and set up their tent. However, that's not been an easy job either as it's revealed that extremely muddy conditions and torrential rain are what's causing the delays.

Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has revealed that Prince was close to performing at this year’s festival, which will now be headlined by Adele, Coldplay and Muse. Speaking to The Sun, Eavis said he was sad to learn of Prince’s passing last month, saying he was a ‘real star’ the festival had never had.

Michael Eavis has said Prince was ‘in talks’ to perform at this year’s Glastonbury.

“I was going to meet his agent, it was all planned but it didn’t happen,” Eavis said. “His death was so sad. That’s a real star that we never had.” Prince had previously been close to headlining the festival in 2014, before Metallica took the spot.

Glastonbury’s location is as iconic as the festival itself with Worthy Farm playing host to the infamous five-day spectacular since June 1970. Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis has revealed that Prince pulled out of playing this year’s event because of “social media chit-chat”. Prince had agreed to play the historic festival but became angered when the planned performance was seemingly leaked to bookmakers, who slashed the odds of the Purple one headlining.

“We wanted him to play and it got to the point where his people were talking to us about him doing it,” Eavis told fashion designer Henry Holland for the Guardian. “But before he confirmed he got really upset because he thought we had advertised that he was playing.” “Rumours get everywhere and one of those rumours was that Prince was coming, so he didn’t want to do it in the end,” he continued. “All the social media chit-chat now about who might be playing really doesn’t help us.”

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis has defended the decision to have Metallica headline the festival this year. There has been growing opposition regarding Metallica performing at the festival by festival-goers who don’t feel a heavy metal band is an appropriate headliner and animal activists who disagree with band member James Hetfield’s association with bear-hunting.

Eavis has not been put off by either of these factors and has maintained he is “looking forward to seeing them.” He continued: “We have been going for so long that people don’t expect us to put on a heavy metal band. We had Rage Against The Machine and we have had lots of fairly heavy metal bands in the past but this is not a typical headline. We usually have bands like Radiohead, Coldplay and U2, the Rolling Stones, but I am really looking forward to them.”

Tickets for next year's Glastonbury Festival sold out in record time on Sunday (October 6, 2013), with 120,000 tickets - costing £210 each - being snapped up in around one and a half hours. 

Over one million people had registered for the event, with the unlucky music fans now relying on a handful of small re-sales next year to secure tickets.

Organisers Michael and Emily Eavis said in a statement, "We have, once again, been blown away by the numbers of people who were hoping to join us at the festival, and we're sorry that many of you have missed out on a ticket.

Glastonbury Festival boss Michael Eavis has revealed that he has more or less signed the headliners for 2014, teasing that neither act has played the historical music gathering in the past.

In an interview with NME, Eavis explained, "Next year's headliners are more or less in place. They're three bands who haven't played Glastonbury, and that's important." Though the article sent the internet into frenzy with speculation over Eavis's dream headliners Prince and Madonna, the emphasis on the word 'band' appears to suggest the acts will be more conventional four or five-pieces, perhaps in the rock genre.

Of course, both acts travel with accomplished bands - Prince particularly - though Eavis's comments leaves those possibilities in doubt - for this writer at least.

The Rolling Stones headlined at Glastonbury on Saturday (29th June) but the viewing public were more interested in watching Bruce Willis' 1988 classic action film, Die Hard, according to The Daily Mail. 2.54 million tuned into the BBC to watch The Rolling Stones' performance whilst 2.78 million watched Bruce Willis punch, kick and shoot in Die Hard.

The BBC sent over 300 staff members to the Glastonbury Festival, at the cost of £2 million, but more people tuned into watch Bruce Willis' Die Hard than Saturday's (29th June 2013) coverage.

After decades of failed attempts, Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis finally managed to book the biggest rock group of all time for the world-renowned UK festival, and with an absolutely riotous set that had the huge crowd off their feet for the full 2+ hours set, The Rolling Stones managed to show just why they are still the biggest band on the planet.

Their headlining slot on Saturday (June 29) night proved to be the icing on the cake to what had already been an absolutely triumphant day two at the Somerset festival and after a hit-filled set from the Arctic Monkeys during the Friday headlining show on the Pyramid Stage, followed by the huge set from the Stones last night, the pressure really is on for Mumford and Sons to deliver when they take to the stage on Sunday (June 30) night to close the festival. Good news for people at home (in the UK) too, because the group did show some of their performance on the BBC afterall (an hour of it at least), despite saying otherwise prior to the set. Checking off such classics as '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction,' 'Gimme Shelter' and 'Paint It Black' during their set, they may have been together for half a century, but Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood managed to grab hold of the audience like few other bands on the bill would be able to.

Many Glasto goers woke up to the pitter patter of rain on canvas this morning as Wednesday's warm, humid weather well and truly dissolved into rain. By the Thursday evening, the site was drenched - what had initially been forecast as a "short sharp shower turned into an all-day deluge," according to the BBC. And where there's rain, there's mud: big sticky, gloopy, welly-stealing piles of it. This didn't deter any of the 118,000 ticket holders already onsite, with revellers retreating to indoor tents or embracing the wet weather and sludge with gusto by making mud slides. As the main festival wasn't even fully underway by then, we can't say we'd like to be sharing their tent this weekend - let's hope they've brought some babywipes!

Unlike everywhere else in the country, the rest of the weekend in the South-West is set to be mild, but not exactly toasty, with mean temperatures of 18°C combined with average windspeeds of about 15mph: so that little weather forecaster's cartoon of a grey cloud will pretty much sum up the weekend. 2009's extreme weather saw torrential downpours and thunderstorms lighting up the valley but was followed by 2010's glorious sunshine, which caused sunstroke and dust problems. Punters have a whole weekend of musical, comical and performance joy ahead of them to distract them from any weather woes though. Saturday night will be headlined by The Rolling Stones who have described the Glastonbury headline slot as an experience they were "destined" for, with organisers Michael and Emily Eavis "thrilled" to have the legendary Stones perform.

In an official video on The Rolling Stones' official YouTube Channel, The Rolling Stones discuss their upcoming Glastonbury Saturday headline set, with guitarist Keith Richards stating that "there were many years we were offered it and turned it down. I look upon it as a culmination of our British heritage really. It had to be done and it's gotta be done, and we'll see what happens."

 Singer Mick Jagger also voiced his enthusiasm for the prestigious slot: "All my kids are going to be there so I'm going to be visiting them in the days before the actual show and they've got all sorts of activities lined up for me to do. My brother lives in Glastonbury too." After forming in 1962, the band became part of the US' 'British Invasion' and have to date released 24 studio albums and eleven live records with eight consecutive No.1 ranking albums.

With such a ginormous festival site at 900 acres, and plenty of drunken hoardes and muddy puddles to fight through, the simple act of walking from one stage to another can be a difficult task. Throw in a lost mud-sucked welly and inebriated disorientation and you haven't a hope in hell of deftly navigating your way in between acts - even with that overpriced festival lanyard you spent half your first day's budget on.

Glastonbury returns in 2013 after having taking a well needed break in 2012 - the Eavis family, the cows and the grass all had a rest whilst the portaloos and crowd barriers were in London for the Olympics. The festival this year marks it's revival with an exciting line-up, including The Rolling Stones, Mumford & Sons, Arctic Monkeys, Chic feat. Nile Rodgers, Chase and Status, and Public Enemy.

However, with all star-packed line-ups comes inevitable clashes: fan of both Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds AND Smashing Pumpkins? Too bad - they're both on around 20:30 on the Sunday with a good half mile hike between stages, meaning you'll have to forego one sullen frontman for another.

It looks like Glastonbury 2013 may already have its first big name already sorted, with festival organiser Michael Eavis admitting that he is on the verge of signing The Rolling Stones as the closing act for the five day festival in the Somerset countryside.

The festival currently has no confirmed headline acts, with the line-up not being announced until much closer to the event, which runs from Wednesday 26 – Sunday 30 June, 2012. Still, this hasn’t deterred people from snapping up the tickets, with the whole festival selling out within minutes of the tickets becoming available on October 7. Whilst cancelled tickets will be made available for resale in April next year, it is more than likely that they will go just as fast.

A source close to Eavis has spoken to tabloid paper The Sun to reveal that the first headline act will potentially be the Stones, admitting that the festival head is “desperate” to sign up the veteran rockers. Should the band agree to perform at the festival, it will be the first time they have appeared at the historic meeting ground for music enthusiast and festival goers that has seen the likes of Radiohead, Beyonce, Jay Z, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and the Arctic Monkeys headline in the past.
