Check out the sleek new trailer below.
It’s all very sleek; shiny cars, handsome people, phone conversations that don’t end with a goodbye. That’s the world Michael Fassbender lives in, probably in real life, but most prominently, in The Counselor, Ridley Scott’s taut looking new thriller, which has a sexy new trailer.
Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt in The Counselor
This is Cormac McCarthy’s screenwriting debut, and it’s a highly anticipated debut considering the success of his novels, and the subsequent translation of The Road from page to screen. Scott provides the visual pedigree, having helmed such cinematic behemoths as Gladiator and Prometheus.
The film also reunites one of its all star cast members – Brad Pitt – and director Scott after the pair worked together on Thelma and Louise twenty-two years ago. "Ridley gave me my shot into film, he let me in the big leagues," Pitt told Digital Spy. "So it's really nice to return and do something with him."
And Pitt was also ready to wax lyrical about the film’s penmanship. "I've probably read every word this man's published more than once, most of them more than once," Pitt admitted, talking about McCarthy, who is currently working on three new novels.
Penelope Cruz also stars, while her husband – Javier Bardem – continues to revel in the antagonist role, having successfully chilled spines in the latest James Bond movie, Skyfall.
Diaz and Cruz also star
The impressive cast is bolstered by the likes of Cameron Diaz and Natalie Dormer. This is certainly one to watch out for come Oscars season; Fassbender is just waiting to pick up that golden statuette, and if the impressive cast, directing talent and writing prowess all live up to their respective talents, this could be an Academy favourite for more than a few categories.
Of course, an impressive cast doesn't mean a good film, and it certainly doesn't mean a solid box office, either. One look at Johnny Depp's Lone Ranger should be enough warning: let's wait a while. Still, when Scott makes being on the wrong side of some violent drug lords look effortlessly cool, it's difficult not to get swept up in the hype. And Fassbender. Fassbender, too.
The Counselor opens on October 25 in the US and November 15 in the UK. Check out some more pictures from the film below.
