Billionaire reality TV star Donald, 70, won the Republican Party's primary vote last month (Jul16) and was confirmed as their nominee to contest November's (16) presidential election against Democrat Hillary Clinton, 68.

Donald has sparked outrage with many of his comments on the campaign trail, most recently on Tuesday (09Aug16) when remarks he made about America's gun laws caused many to believe he had called for Hillary's assassination.

In an open letter Michael pleads with Donald's daughter Ivanka, who made a well regarded speech supporting her father at July's (16) Republican National Convention (RNC), to convince her father to abandon politics for the sake of his well being.

"Dear Ivanka," the letter begins. "I’m writing to you because your dad is not well. Every day he continues his spiral downward – and after his call for gun owners to commit acts of violence against Mrs. Clinton, it is clear he needs help, serious help. His comments and behavior have become more and more bizarre and detached from reality. He is in need of an intervention. And I believe only you can conduct it."

The Fahrenheit 9/11 director goes on to praise Ivanka as someone who can reason with her father, who he writes has endangered Hillary's life with his comments.

"He trusts you," Michael adds, "He believes in you. Although I don’t know you personally, you seem to be a very smart and together woman. I think he will listen to you. He must because he is now not simply a danger to himself, he has put the next president of the United States in harms way. He has encouraged and given permission to the unhinged and the deranged to essentially assassinate Hillary Clinton."

In his letter Michael, 62, includes a suggested script for Ivanka's intervention written by his counsellor friend Jeff Gibbs.

The script requires Ivanka, who is reported to be friends with Hillary's daughter Chelsea, 36, to sit her father down, explain that he is scaring her with his political ambitions and ask him to give them up.

Michael concludes by writing that if she persuades her dad to withdraw from the presidential race she will be remembered well in history.

Donald Trump's spokesperson was contacted by WENN for comment on Michael's letter but had not responded at the time of going to press.
