Twin Peaks: The Complete Series Review

Excellent
X-Files, Heroes, Lost? They all owe their very souls to a short-lived TV series that ran for just two seasons from 1990-1992. You might have heard of it: Twin Peaks.

I'll admit now that I wore an "I killed Laura Palmer" t-shirt thoughout my freshman year of college. Am I embarrassed by that now? Yes, but not as much as you'd think. Twin Peaks was a bona-fide phenomenon, the most subversively popular thing of its day and still a brainy-slash-guilty pleasure with few equals.

Making Love Review

OK
It would be unfair to expect a gay-themed movie made in 1982 to be the least bit au courant given all that's happened in the past quarter century, but no matter how much slack you cut Making Love and no matter how much credit you give it for existing at all, it's still not much of a movie. The story of a man coming to terms with himself and wrecking his marriage in the process is tepid where it should be intense, vague where it should be piercing.

He's a young doctor on the rise, and she's the kind of TV executive you always see in the movies, ensconced in her large office reading scripts, juggling the fall schedule, and monitoring the three televisions built into the wall. Her big plan: to bring live classic plays back to prime time. (Good luck, Claire!) They've just bought their dream house, and all is right with the world, except...

Slap Shot Review

Good
What's all the fuss about? Canadians, hockey enthusiasts, and especially Canadian hockey enthusiasts absolutely love this movie, but it's hardly the comic masterpiece it's made out to be. Sure, there's plenty of ranuchy one-liners, filthy language (almost shocking coming out of Paul Newman's mouth), and male moonings, but the most amusing tidbit is that is was actually written by a woman. Go figure.

Just A Little Harmless Sex Review

Weak
In the grand tradition of fine, adult fare like Body Shots comes this unforgettable Jonathan Silverman vehicle featuring a man (and his two friends) who "accidentally" cheats on his wife (and her two friends)... and the one night none of them will forget! Wow, I should go into promo copywriting. Anyway, this embarrassing bit of fluff is essentially harmless yet overwhelmingly forgettable, with the possible exception of Kimberly Williams' drunken strip tease wherein she loses only her shirt. Talk about phony advertising....
