Michelle Heaton made the decision to have a double mastectomy ''in a matter of minutes'' while eating Nando's chicken.

The former Liberty X singer says she didn't deliberate too long about having the procedure after being told she had an 85 per cent chance of developing breast cancer.

Speaking on AOL web series Being Mum, Michelle said: ''We went to Nando's and had a glass of wine, as you do, over some chicken. And I think it was in a matter of minutes, we were just like, 'The mastectomy's a no-brainer.' ''

Michelle - who has daughter Faith, three, and son Aaron with husband Hugh Hanley - admits she had also planned to undergo a hysterectomy to avoid ovarian cancer, but fell pregnant with her second child.

She explained: ''It was because we were really not careful I got pregnant. We knew I would have the hysterectomy at some point, so we just took that as a sign to have it sooner rather than later.

''I don't see the reason to wait to have these operations because you're only increasing your risk of getting it.''
