The Fate Of The Furious Review

Very Good

With the more dumbed-down title Fast & Furious 8 outside of North America, this overcrowded franchise continues in its trajectory to provide mindlessly outrageous thrills involving muscly guys, tough girls and loud cars. This episode is marginally more grounded than the high-flying previous instalment, but it's still utterly preposterous. It's also a huge amount of fun, thanks to the snappy cast and far larger than life driving stunts.

We catch up with Dom and Letty (Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez) living in Havana and challenging the locals to some vroom-vroom racing antics. But their happy life is interrupted by the arrival of Cipher (Charlize Theron), a mysterious woman who has something on Dom and lures him to the dark side. To stop Cipher's nefarious plan, Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is brought back into action by Mr Nobody (Kurt Russell) and his rookie colleague Eric (Scott Eastwood), who also draft in Letty and the team (Tyrese Gibson, Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges and Nathalie Emmanuel) before heading off to Berlin. Things don't go so well there, so they bring in hothead nemesis Deckard (Jason Statham) and chase Dom and Cipher to New York and Arctic Russia for even more outrageous vehicular mayhem.

New to the franchise, director F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) gives the film a gritty edge that sits surprisingly well with a stream of wry comedy running right through every scene. He also kicks off the action from the opening shot, then barely pauses for breath for a odd moment of plot exposition or emotion along the way. This is full-on action entertainment, riotously over-the-top and hilariously enjoyable, even if it's dumb as a post. And the action sequences are jaw-droppingly enormous.

Fast and Furious 8 (The Fate Of The Furious) Super Bowl Trailer

Just what does Dominic Toretto think he's doing? It seems the original team has disbanded, with Brian and Mia having retired from the fast life (literally) and the world of crime, and it seemed like Dom and Letty had a normal life ahead of them following their marriage. But that's just not the way life goes for Dom, whose love of danger seems to far outweigh his love for his friends and family. Just when you thought that their lives couldn't get anymore complicated, a mysterious woman walks in and threatens to dismantle everything, encouraging Dom to betray those he holds dear for one more adventure. Hobbs, meanwhile, isn't about to let Dom get away with it this time, and he and his team cross terrains of every kind from Cuba to the Arctic in a bid to take him down once and for all.

Fast 8: The Fate of the Furious Trailer

If you thought things had cooled down for the 'Fast and Furious' team in the last film, you were wrong. They compromised their amnesty over their past crimes with events in 'Furious 7', and now most fo the group has disbanded, Brian and Mia have retired from their street-racing-cum-crime careers and Dom (Vin Diesel) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) are intending to follow a normal life following their honeymoon. Unfortunately, Dom's love of danger draws him to a mysterious stranger who enlists him into another crime-fuelled adventure which takes him everywhere from Cuba to New York to the Arctic. He ends up betraying his closest friends, people who have become more like family, as he embarks on a journey that will bring him challenges that he's never experience before.

Michelle Rodriguez Paul Walker

Michelle Rodriguez has apologised for controversial comments she made over the death of her Fast and Furious co-star Paul Walker, saying they were taken ‘out of context’. Earlier this week a video of Michelle Rodriguez from documentary The Reality of Truth appeared online, showing the actress saying she felt "jealous" that Walker had died first.

Michelle RodriguezMichelle Rodriguez has said the comments she made about Paul Walker’s death were taken out of context.

Speaking to TMZ, Rodriguez said: "That's the people from the documentary using things out of context. I had a deep moment and I said something that, you know, was personal. It was exploited and I apologise about that, but if I knew it was being promoted that way I wouldn't have been involved.”

Michelle Rodriguez Paul Walker Dwayne Johnson

Michelle Rodriguez has revealed that she once came to feel “jealousy” over the death of her ‘Fast and Furious’ co-star Paul Walker, during a candid conversation about coping with grief.

The 37 year old, who stars as Letty Ortiz in the action movie franchise, worked with Walker on the movies until his death in a car crash in November 2013. The Porsche Carrera GT in which he was a passenger veered off the road in California and burst into flames – the driver, his friend Roger Rodas, was also killed.

Cara Delevingne And Michelle Rodriguez Dating! A Look At Other Cool Celebrity Couples

Cara Delevingne Michelle Rodriguez Johnny Depp Amber Heard Justin Timberlake

It seems like Michelle Rodriguez may have finally confirmed that she and supermodel, Cara Delevingne, are in fact a romantic item. There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding the pair since they attended a New York Knicks game together back in January and acted amorously together in the front row. Michelle, who started her career in the 2000 movie Girlfight before going on to star in The Fast and the Furious franchise alongside Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, admitted in 2006 that she has had relationships with both men and women. As far as we know, this is Cara’s first relationship with another woman and we’re sending out serious kudos to this pair on their budding romance.

Michelle and Cara are certainly one of the hottest couples on the block at the moment, and in light of Michelle’s confirmation that the pair are "having fun" together we thought we’d take a look at some other super cool celeb couples.

Cara Delevingne & Michelle Rodriguez Drink, Make Out, Are Human Beings At Knicks Game

Cara Delevingne Michelle Rodriguez

Cara Delevigne is taking the socialite part of her model/socialite job description very seriously. The most recent sighting of the supermodel was at a Knicks game, together with Fast & Furious star Michelle Rodriguez. The two were caught in numerous photos and, according to an ever trustworthy “source” for Us Weekly, engaged in a lot of “bizarre behavior” during the game. Mostly it sounds like they were smoking e-cigarettes, making funny faces and drinking. The observer explained: "Cara had to take Michelle's drink away from her during the 2nd half of the game. Michelle was so sloppy, it was embarrassing to watch."

Cara Delevingne
Cara has never been a shy one - on or off camera.

Nevertheless, wherever Cara and her magical eyebrows go these days, there’s news and if Rodriguez is present too, then that’s an added bonus. According to gossip mag, the two also shared a brief makeout sesh in the Madison Square Garden stands, although unfortunately, it wasn’t caught on kiss cam. Since Rodriguez has admitted to having “gone both ways” in the past, and Cara has been caught making out with various celebs, most recently Miley Cyrus, this “news” isn’t all that shocking anymore. Although, clad in leather and skull print, Delevingne and Rodriguez did look rather snazzy during their over-exposed outing.

Charlie Sheen Michelle Rodriguez Lady GaGa Sofia Vergara

It’s a good thing Machete and its stars don’t take themselves too seriously, because one look at the reviews would be enough to kick off a pretty serious binge. Still, the latest in the franchise – Machete Kills – is more midnight popcorn than early evening wine.

The former couple, whose lovelife echoed that of their on screen human/vampire romance, weren't at the event to pick up even one of their seven Teen Choice surfboards. The trailer has finally been released for Robert Rodriguez's latest action movie: a sequel to 2010's cult-favourite Machete.

The director, who is also responsible for box office hits Sin City and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, hypes his latest follow-up by comparing it to previous successful action series: "We've given the character a much bigger playground. It's going to be like a James Bond movie, with a Bond-style villain", he said, talking to screenrant.com.

Vin Diesel & Michelle Rodriguez - Fast & Furious 6 Video Interview

Video Interview with Vin Diesel & Michelle Rodriguez

The 'Fast and Furious' franchise stars Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez are interviewed about the latest sequel 'Fast & Furious 6' in London. They discuss the size and scale of the movie and the chick fight between Michelle's character Letty and Gina Carano's character Riley.

'Everybody came together for this one and I think everybody across the board wanted to make this the best film which is rare', Vin explained. 'The size and scale is huge.. I think Justin [Lin - director] didn't want to be held back with too much reality on this. I think he just wanted to take off the training wheels and just go as crazy as he could go.' On her fight with Gina, Michelle explains her initial reservations about her character coming out on top despite Gina being an MMA fighter. 'I don't want it to be something fake, something that people are like, 'Yeah right, Michelle Rodriguez against an MMA fighter'', she says. 'So we got together with Justin Lin and developed the skillset and the mindset behind the fight.'

Dom, Brian and Mia may be living it up with $100 million dollars in their back pockets, but living the fast life hasn't been entirely beneficial as a hole in the lives has been left by the fact that they cannot return home after the trouble they got in with the law. When DSS agent Luke Hobbs approaches Dom to ask for his help nabbing a gang of highly-trained drivers who are leaving a trail of destruction everywhere they go, Dom is less than tempted by the offer. However, when Hobbs shows him a week old photograph of Dom's former love Letty who he thought was dead, he takes on the job with his friends, determined to find out the truth even if it's the last thing he wants to hear. In return for the capture of this gang of road miscreants, the trio are offered a full pardon for their own crimes. However, with the stakes this high, survival becomes the most sought after prize for their latest challenge.

Turbo Trailer

Turbo is a regular garden snail who, unlike his friends, is bored of living his life at a. well, snail's pace. As much as his friends and family try to convince him that his dreams of becoming a super-fast racer are, frankly, ridiculous and utterly fruitless, he refuses to give up hope and makes a wish that is set to change his life forever. After accidently finding himself taking a ride on the roof of the racing car of one of the fastest racers in the world, he finds himself flying into a tank of nitrous oxide which transforms his genetic code and makes him one of the fastest moving creatures on Earth, putting other wannabe snail racers to shame.

'Turbo' is the hilarious and delightful new animated movie from DreamWorks about the power of hope and determination in striving to achieve your dreams. It is David Soren's directorial feature film debut, though he has worked on a string of other animated flicks in other departments. He also co-wrote 'Turbo' with Darren Lemke ('Jack the Giant Slayer', 'Shrek Forever After') and Robert D. Siegel ('The Wrestler', 'Big Fan'). It is scheduled to be released in UK cinemas this Autumn on October 18th 2013.

Fast & Furious 6 Trailer

Dominic, Brian and Mia maybe $100 million richer following their daring heist at the expense of crime lord Hernan Reyes in Rio de Janeiro, but their lives have been left somewhat ruptured by the fact that they cannot return home despite DSS agent Luke Hobbs letting them go after they saved his life. However, they are given a chance to be pardoned in full when Hobbs enlists them and their team to help him take down a group of deadly mercenary drivers with their own formidable street racing skills. Things aren't as simple as that though, especially when Dom discovers that his former love Letty who he believed to be dead makes a return as the brutal and self-serving assistant of the criminal kingpin behind the organisation. Will the Fast and Furious team succeed in the dangerous mission with their lives and their chance to go home hanging in the balance?

Following the events of the Fast franchise's fifth instalment 'Fast Five', our favourite street racers are back with the upcoming 'Fast & Furious 6'. With a full all-star cast return, the movie looks set to be a hit following the trailer's debut at the Super Bowl XLVII. It has been directed by Justin Lin ('Annapolis') and written by Chris Morgan ('Cellular', 'Wanted') of the last three instalments and is scheduled to be released in the UK on May 24th 2013.

One day, his treasured dreams seem set to be realised when, following a freak incident, he develops an incredible superpower that allows him to move at a mind-blowing pace giving him the chance to truly compete at the IndyCar races and win the Indy 500 champion title for himself.

Machete Review

Very Good
Essentially part three of the Grindhouse series, this old-style thriller sprang from Rodriguez's fake trailer. In some ways it should have stayed that short, because while it's riotously entertaining, there's nothing much to it.

Machete (Trejo) is a disgraced Mexican Federale who's hiding amongst the illegal immigrants on the Texas-Mexico border. Here he stumbles into a conspiracy involving a trigger-happy senator (DeNiro) and a wild-eyed vigilante (Johnson) who are cleaning up the border one bullet at a time. But he also runs up against a sexy immigration officer (Alba), a ruthless businessman (Fahey) and a trail of criminality leading to his nemesis Torrez (Seagal). As things get nasty, he gets help from his priest brother (Marin) and a feisty taco-truck lady (Rodriguez).

Fast & Furious Review

Bad
Doing its best to further erase whatever pleasant memories (guilty or no) people may still have had from the 2001 original, Fast & Furious reunites The Fast and the Furious cast with much ballyhoo, only to kill one of them off in no time flat and leave viewers fairly unconcerned with what happens to the rest of them. Given that this third sequel is intent on treating the events of the origin film as some sort of holy text, this is probably not the effect that the filmmakers were going for.

For the record, Rob Cohen's The Fast and the Furious -- which took the name from a 1955 Roger Corman racing flick, and updated the master's exploitation bent with well-deployed studio gloss -- was a perfectly enjoyable piece of work. Throwing squadrons of neon-colored muscle cars and a still-trying Vin Diesel into the middle of an overheated potboiler drama about family honor and loyalty turned out to be a genius stroke; the thing left scorch marks. It moved with the skillful speed of well-honed pulp. By contrast, the near-laughable Fast & Furious (directed by Justin Lin, who did the honors on the last installment, Tokyo Drift) tries far too hard and achieves very little.

S.W.A.T. Review

Terrible
Is it that Samuel L. Jackson's character is nicknamed "Hondo"? Could it be the sequence where Colin Farrell goes running on the beach, appears to flirt with a dog and later explosively vomits, all of it set to the Rolling Stones' "Shattered"? Or maybe it's the time that the cast of S.W.A.T. all bust out with a rendition of the theme song from the TV show that the movie itself was based on. (Imagine Tom Cruise humming the Mission: Impossible theme while breaking into Langley.) You can pick from a variety of primary causes, but the end result is the same: S.W.A.T. is such an abominable waste of time and resources that I barely know where to begin.

There's plenty of blame to go around, but it should probably start with the script by David Ayer and David McKenna, which starts with your basic bank hostage scenario that can only be solved by (cue music) the S.W.A.T. team. Hotdoggers Jim Street (Colin Farrell) and Brian Gamble (Jeremy Renner) move into the bank, disobeying orders, and Gamble ends up shooting (nonfatally) one of the hostages. Street gets demoted out of S.W.A.T., while Gamble quits the department entirely, holding a serious grudge.

Blue Crush Review

OK
At 104 minutes, Blue Crush puts the "endless" in the popular surf phrase "endless summer." It certainly feels longer than any movie derived from a magazine article deserves to be (in this case, it's author Susan Orlean's 1998 Women's Outdoor magazine piece "Surf Girls of Maui"). But the bloated undertaking especially disappoints because Crush positively flies out of the gate and entertains for a good 30 minutes before a huge wipeout.

Relative newcomer Kate Bosworth plays Anne Marie, unofficial leader of a trio of surfer chicks and the only one who's tasted fame. Three years prior, she aced a teen championship and flirted with the pro circuit, but a head-on collision with the coral reef resulted in a near-death drowning incident that Anne Marie just can't shake. Her reluctance to get back on the board threatens her final shot at the Pipeline Championship, and the sponsorships and recognition that come with the pro surfing tour.
