The Fate Of The Furious Review

Very Good

With the more dumbed-down title Fast & Furious 8 outside of North America, this overcrowded franchise continues in its trajectory to provide mindlessly outrageous thrills involving muscly guys, tough girls and loud cars. This episode is marginally more grounded than the high-flying previous instalment, but it's still utterly preposterous. It's also a huge amount of fun, thanks to the snappy cast and far larger than life driving stunts.

We catch up with Dom and Letty (Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez) living in Havana and challenging the locals to some vroom-vroom racing antics. But their happy life is interrupted by the arrival of Cipher (Charlize Theron), a mysterious woman who has something on Dom and lures him to the dark side. To stop Cipher's nefarious plan, Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is brought back into action by Mr Nobody (Kurt Russell) and his rookie colleague Eric (Scott Eastwood), who also draft in Letty and the team (Tyrese Gibson, Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges and Nathalie Emmanuel) before heading off to Berlin. Things don't go so well there, so they bring in hothead nemesis Deckard (Jason Statham) and chase Dom and Cipher to New York and Arctic Russia for even more outrageous vehicular mayhem.

New to the franchise, director F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) gives the film a gritty edge that sits surprisingly well with a stream of wry comedy running right through every scene. He also kicks off the action from the opening shot, then barely pauses for breath for a odd moment of plot exposition or emotion along the way. This is full-on action entertainment, riotously over-the-top and hilariously enjoyable, even if it's dumb as a post. And the action sequences are jaw-droppingly enormous.

Fast and Furious 8 (The Fate Of The Furious) Super Bowl Trailer

Just what does Dominic Toretto think he's doing? It seems the original team has disbanded, with Brian and Mia having retired from the fast life (literally) and the world of crime, and it seemed like Dom and Letty had a normal life ahead of them following their marriage. But that's just not the way life goes for Dom, whose love of danger seems to far outweigh his love for his friends and family. Just when you thought that their lives couldn't get anymore complicated, a mysterious woman walks in and threatens to dismantle everything, encouraging Dom to betray those he holds dear for one more adventure. Hobbs, meanwhile, isn't about to let Dom get away with it this time, and he and his team cross terrains of every kind from Cuba to the Arctic in a bid to take him down once and for all.

He ends up betraying his closest friends, people who have become more like family, as he embarks on a journey that will bring him challenges that he's never experience before.

The 37 year old, who stars as Letty Ortiz in the action movie franchise, worked with Walker on the movies until his death in a car crash in November 2013. Cara Delevingne And Michelle Rodriguez Dating! A Look At Other Cool Celebrity Couples

Cara Delevingne Michelle Rodriguez Johnny Depp Amber Heard Justin Timberlake

It seems like Michelle Rodriguez may have finally confirmed that she and supermodel, Cara Delevingne, are in fact a romantic item. There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding the pair since they attended a New York Knicks game together back in January and acted amorously together in the front row. Michelle, who started her career in the 2000 movie Girlfight before going on to star in The Fast and the Furious franchise alongside Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, admitted in 2006 that she has had relationships with both men and women. As far as we know, this is Cara’s first relationship with another woman and we’re sending out serious kudos to this pair on their budding romance.

Michelle and Cara are certainly one of the hottest couples on the block at the moment, and in light of Michelle’s confirmation that the pair are "having fun" together we thought we’d take a look at some other super cool celeb couples.

Cara Delevingne & Michelle Rodriguez Drink, Make Out, Are Human Beings At Knicks Game

Cara Delevingne Michelle Rodriguez

Cara Delevigne is taking the socialite part of her model/socialite job description very seriously. The most recent sighting of the supermodel was at a Knicks game, together with Fast & Furious star Michelle Rodriguez. The two were caught in numerous photos and, according to an ever trustworthy “source” for Us Weekly, engaged in a lot of “bizarre behavior” during the game. Mostly it sounds like they were smoking e-cigarettes, making funny faces and drinking. The observer explained: "Cara had to take Michelle's drink away from her during the 2nd half of the game. Michelle was so sloppy, it was embarrassing to watch."

Cara Delevingne
Cara has never been a shy one - on or off camera.

Nevertheless, wherever Cara and her magical eyebrows go these days, there’s news and if Rodriguez is present too, then that’s an added bonus. According to gossip mag, the two also shared a brief makeout sesh in the Madison Square Garden stands, although unfortunately, it wasn’t caught on kiss cam. Since Rodriguez has admitted to having “gone both ways” in the past, and Cara has been caught making out with various celebs, most recently Miley Cyrus, this “news” isn’t all that shocking anymore. Although, clad in leather and skull print, Delevingne and Rodriguez did look rather snazzy during their over-exposed outing.

Fast And Furious 6 Set To Finally Hit Fifth Gear At US Box Office

Vin Diesel Dwayne Johnson Michelle Rodriguez Paul Walker

On paper Fast And Furious 6 is the trashy alternative to the high budget action thrillers of Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness, but at the box office it looks like it’s going to reel them in this weekend as it opens with a surprising run of positive reviews and a surprisingly loyal fan base meaning that Vin Diesel and co. are set to come up trumps.

So why is it going to do so well so far into its series? "'Fast & Furious 6' arrives on the scene packing more punch than any franchise rightfully should on its sixth lap," Exhibitor Relations senior box-office analyst Jeff Bock told MTV News. "But this isn't your average Part 6, is it? '2 Fast 2 Furious' didn't have Vin Diesel and 'Tokyo Drift' didn't have either of the stars, so '6' really is '4' with Paul Walker and Diesel."

He continued "While '6' usually translates to franchise fatigue, this series doesn't play by the rules, and Universal has done a great job beefing up each installment," he continued. "In 'Fast Five,' they added Dwayne Johnson and in '6' they brought Michelle Rodriguez's character back from the dead. Plus, instead of a car-racing series, 'Fast & Furious' has morphed into a heist-film franchise, extending its audience and lengthening its play-ability." So there you go. We look forward to Fast And Furious 18 in 2050.

Fast & Furious 6 Review

Good

The most impressive thing about the sixth entry into this noisy franchise is that it's both more preposterous and more self-important than ever before. Which is no mean feat. The cast and crew clearly went for something bigger and more explosive, but by removing their tongues from their cheeks they leave us laughing at them rather than with them. Even so, some of the crazed action scenes are breathtaking.

The story picks up right where the last one ended: Dominic and Brian (Diesel and Walker) have taken the fortune they grabbed in Rio and started an idyllic life in the Canary Islands. Brian and Dom's sister Mia (Brewster) have even produced an adorable baby. Then US Agent Hobbs (Johnson) appears asking for their help in capturing the villainous Shaw (Evans), who is collecting military technological gadgets for some nefarious purpose. And they agree to go along because Dom's presumed-dead girlfriend Letty (Rodriguez) is working with him. So they reassemble the team (Pataky, Gibson, Bridges, Kang, Gadot and Carano) and get started in London.

Yes, this chapter takes place in Europe, which gives the filmmakers new landmarks to race past in their elaborately orchestrated chase sequences, throwing cars like toys at every plate-glass window in sight. The first night-time set-piece in London is fairly incoherent (and nonsensical), but things get better from there, with a whizzy bit of competitive driving for Dom and Letty and a few other showdowns before the action moves to Spain for a couple of massive, gob-smacking action sequences that would boggle the mind if we thought for a second that they were even marginally possible.

Fast and Furious 6

The big cinematic event this week was the world premiere in London of Fast & Furious 6, which brought the film's stars out on the red carpet. With the city in the background, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster talked to the cameras about the action series and its surprisingly sustained popularity. Set in Europe and billed as the biggest yet in the franchise, the sixth film opens next week in the UK and the following week in the US. And production on part 7 is already underway.

Also this week, Hugh Jackman participated in a global interview via Twitter to talk about his upcoming action movie The Wolverine, which comes out in July. As fans sent in questions, he replied with details about the film, his gruelling preparation to play the muscle-bound X-man and how much he enjoys playing the "toughest guy in the yard". His answers were caught on video.

Fast And Furious 6: High Octane Thrill Ride, Or Car Crash? [Trailer & Pictures]

Vin Diesel in Fast & Furious 6
Vin Diesel in Fast & Furious 6

The final trailer for Fast & Furious 6 is finally here, featuring Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Vin Diesel driving cars really, really fast. Ok, so it's a little more than that, though not too much. Essentially, the latest trailer is the best bits from the previous clips that have made their way online.

If you're a fan of the franchise you're probably aware that Justin Lin's swan song in the series follows Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs tracking down Dom Toretto (Diesel) in order to ask for his help in taking down a much more dangerous criminal gang, led by Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Johnson's character needs to recover Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) whom he assumed was dead. Of course, nothing is ever that simple in the world of the Fast and the Furious and Shaw has his own team of experts pulling off dating heists.

We look at Oscar-nominated animated romp Wreck-it Ralph and Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren in Hitchcock

Awards season continues to crank up with Argo taking the lead in the homestretch. Ben Affleck's true 1970s thriller has won the top prizes at the actors, producers and directors guilds, which makes it the favourite to win Best Picture on Oscar night February 24th, even though Affleck isn't nominated as Best Director. On the other hand, he is up for director, as well as film and actor, in this Sunday's British Academy Film Awards, better known as the Baftas.

This weekend also sees the release of the season's final awards-contending titles in the UK, including Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren in Hitchcock and the Oscar-nominated animated romp Wreck-it Ralph. There are also two acclaimed foreign films: Pablo Larrain's inventive Oscar-nominated political black comedy No, and the gorgeous Japanese drama I Wish.

Fast & Furious 6 Trailer Gives Us Action, Action, Action (Video)

Vin Diesel Dwayne Johnson Jordana Brewster Ludacris Michelle Rodriguez

A new trailer for Fast & Furious 6 debuted during the much-coveted Superbowl advert space, and it didn't disappoint in terms of pure, adrenaline fuelled stunt-centric entertainment.

Justin Lin's blockbuster franchise enters its 6th instalment on May 24th 2013, and every year the films seem to get more and more ridiculous. This year, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gison, Ludacris and surprise returnee Michelle Rodriguez are enlisted to help the U.S. government take on villains with some fast cars of their own - and a tank, of course, which can been seen in the new TV spot screaming down the road, causing all kinds of destruction in its wake.

Some of our favourite quotes from the trailer, and believe us, this was tough, are; "We talkin' vehicular warfare," which we certainly hope it is, "They got a tank," which we can't wait to see, and of course, the last line, "do you believe in ghosts," which marks the exciting return of a certain lady.
