Muhammad Abdullah, previously known as Miles Davis IV, passed away due to complications from a heart ailment.

He was one of three children Davis shared with Irene Cawthon Davis-Oliver, and his sister, Cheryl, has paid tribute to her late sibling in a statement which reads: "My brother was a gentle soul. He was very smart and knowledgeable about the world around him. He was also an historian. He smiled often and had wisdom."

His half-brother Erin adds, "With heavy hearts we wish Muhammad a peaceful transition. We love you!"

Abdullah, who served in the U.S. Navy during his youth, will be laid to rest during a funeral ceremony at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday (22Oct15). The service will be conducted by an Imam in recognition of his Muslim faith.

Abdullah's death comes 14 years after his father passed away in 1991.
