"She's really messed up," brands Today's Mika Brzezinski on Miley Cyrus. The TV host who sent comedian Russell Brand into a rage with her ill-prepared and patronising interview has given her rather extreme views on Miley's divisive MTV Video Music Awards show performance on Monday night.

During her VMAs performance the 20 year-old emerged onstage out of the chest of a bear and wasted no time before she began to twerk, stick her tongue out, and thrusting to the music. She ripped off her cartoon bodice to reveal a nude PVC bikini before joining Robin Thicke in singing 'Blurred Lines' with a raunchy routine alongside.

Miley Cyrus' VMA Twerk-Fest Proved To Be Controversial.

Some of the responses to the evening have been hilarious, particularly those of Will Smith's children, and Twitter exploded in reactionary messages to Miley; some were derisory, some congratulatory. However many famous names have also chosen to get involved in the debate of the VMAs' most memorable performance.

Mika Brzenzinski, host of MSNBC, has made no attempts to hide the fact that she thought Cyrus' provocative dancing was appalling, and has even stated that she thinks the former Disney child star has psychological issues, including an eating disorder. The TV personality, who earlier this year clashed with British comedian Russell Brand, told Matt Lauer on Today's Professionals that she thinks Miley's MTV appearance should be denounced and that at MTV, "somebody should be fired."

Mika's Is One Of The More Extreme Opinions On Miley's Dancing.

"There's pushing the envelope and there's porn, there's raunchy porn that's disgusting and disturbing and seeing a 20 year old young woman literally in the process of her undoing and everyone clapping for it and being disturbed by it and talking about it and showing it, which I hope we don't," Brzezinski said, not holding back. "Don't show it here on my segment, please." Mika's words came too late though, as scenes from Miley's performance were shown.

Lauer, without defending Miley's routine, made attempts to dampen Brzezinski's strong opinions, saying that Miley was paid to perform a "provocative" song at the year's "most provocative awards show." "I think the only thing that surprises me is that we're surprised," he said, but his words only seemed to fire up Brzezinski more.

"I wouldn't make a joke of it actually. I think that was really, really disturbing. That young lady, who is 20, is obviously deeply troubled, deeply disturbed, clearly has confidence issues, probably eating disorder and I don't think anybody should have put her on stage. That was disgusting and embarrassing[...]That was not attractive."

Somehow, We Doubt Miley Cares.

No one could stop the ranty TV host once she'd started: "That was not fun. That was not funny. That was really, really bad for anybody who's younger and impressionable and she's really messed up. [MTV] should be ashamed of themselves[...]The whole thing was cringe worthy but I feel bad for her. She is a mess. Someone needs to take care of her. Someone needs not to put her on stage and make a complete fool of herself[...]I don't want to see that ever again on this show."

Mika Brzezinski Branded Miley Cyrus "Disgusting."

As Brzezinski's shrieked opinions reached an incoherent high-pitched drone, marking her transformation into The Simpsons' Ned Flanders wife ("will somebody please think of the children!") complete, it became obvious that stale-mate had been reached. None of the panellists were saying Cyrus' performance was a good thing but were too tired to go up against the inconsolable Mika.

Miley has enjoyed a flourish of success in the limelight after her performance and the VMAs has experienced greater levels of press exposure than ever before. Somehow, we don't think anyone's going to get fired.
