While some might be more concerned about her love life or the colour of her armpit hair Miley Cyrus is putting her fame to good use, by launching a charity which helps homeless and LGBT youth. The Happy Hippie Foundation aims to raise funds and increase awareness about youth homelessness as well as creating digital support groups for LGBT youths and their families.

"The position I'm in, I feel like I've got a lot of power, but so many kids don't feel that way. They're under their parents' rule,” Cyrus told The Associated Press on Monday. The 22 year old added that she wanted to use her fame for good, describing Bruce Jenner as her 'hero' for raising awareness of transgender issues.

"When you have all eyes on you, what are you saying? And that's what I had to ask myself a lot," Cyrus added. ”It's like, I know you're going to look at me more if my (breasts) are out, so look at me. And then I'm going to tell you about my foundation for an hour and totally hustle you.”

The charity plans to create digital support groups for LGBT youth and their families, as well as working with My Friend's Place, a center for homeless youth in Hollywood. Launching The Happy Hippie Foundation on Facebook, Cyrus unveiled the first of her ‘Backyard Sessions’ videos while encouraging fans to make a donation.

In the video Cyrus performs ‘Different’ with idol Joan Jett, in a performance filmed in the singer’s actual backyard. Future videos will include appearances from Ariana Grande and Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace.

Of course Miley couldn't get away without talking about her pink armpit hair, which she debuted on Instagram last week. "The pink pits are saying, 'Don't tell me what to do,'" Miley told the AP.

"It's back to what I'm preaching in a way, you know, telling these kids. I'm not just saying you be yourself and I'm going to go be Miley Cyrus. I'm saying I'm going to be my (expletive) self, too.” You can find out more about The Happy Hippie Foundation by going to their website.
